ITS Campus, ITS News – The Sapuangin Team from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) launched their newest urban car called Sapuangin XI Evo 3 at the courtyard of ITS Rectorate Building, Friday (16/6). In the event entitled The Launch of ITS Team Sapuangin XI Evo 3, the ITS energy-efficient car team is ready to compete at the Asia Shell Eco-Marathon 2023.
Representing the The Vice Rector IV of ITS, Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng Ph.D., in his remarks appreciated the hard work of the team which has been established since 2009. Bambang expects that the Sapuangin team will be able to make another glorious achievement at the international event. “Hopefully, what we are fighting for can give the best results and continue what has been achieved before, becoming the best in Asia,” he hoped.
In this annual event which will be held on 4 – 9 July 2023 at the Mandalika International Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), the Sapuangin team will take part in two branches, Off Track and On Track competitions. The Off Track competition include autonomous programming competition, simulation to innovate, technical innovation, and carbon footprint reduction. Besides, the On Track competition is conducted directly at the location of the circuit.
Concerning on the readiness of the team, the General Manager of ITS Sapuangin Team, Bayu Irfansyah Putra, explained that his team had been preparing this urban car for almost a year since the last October 2022. His team evaluated last year’s Shell Eco-Marathon results and focused on improving the car’s internals. “We improved a lot from the engine, drivetrain, and vehicle dynamics,” he explained.
Furthermore, Bayu also explained that the 11th generation car from the Sapuangin Team has many advantages than the previous one. The urban car that is currently being developed is capable of consuming a maximum fuel of 450 kilometers per liter and applying data processing results such as car RPM, speed, efficient costs, and the required fuel. The future target of the development is to achieve a maximum fuel efficiency of 550 kilometers per liter or more. “Not only fixing the engine, but also processing data so that the car is more likely efficient,” he explained.
The car, which is 2.6 meters long, 1.3 meters wide, and 1.1 meters high is designed to be eco-friendly and energy efficient. “One of the branches of the competition, carbon footprint reduction, encourages our team to carry out processes to produce products that are environmentally friendly,” said the student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Bayu expects that the latest version of the Sapuangin car driven by Nurul Ilmi Rojabia Hermuttaqien from ITS Electrical Engineering Department can bring home the championship trophy at the Shell-Eco-Marathon 2023. Two weeks before the competition, the Sapuangin Team conducted a lot of testing and running to continuously evaluate the deficiencies that exist in the car. “So that during the race the car will have the best and maximum performance,” Bayu said hopefully.
