ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) again provides a platform to advance the economy and respond to community needs by establishing an ITS Mart supermarket. One of the ITS business lines that was built in the campus area facing Jl Arief Rahman Hakim, Surabaya was also inaugurated through a grand opening activity, Friday (14/7).

The Director of Cooperation and Business Management (DKPU) ITS Tri Joko Wahyu Adi ST MT PhD in his remarks said that ITS Mart is a place for economic activity engaged in the retail sector. As with other retail sectors, ITS Mart provides various product needs such as food and beverage, office stationery (ATK), and home equipment.

Apart from these products, various products produced by ITS will also be marketed, such as ITS merchandise, which is currently only sold at ITS Merchandise outlets. In addition, ITS students can also market their products at this ITS Mart. “An example of a product that has been marketed at ITS Mart is an innovative herbal medicine product made by students from the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD) ITS,” said the ITS alumnus.

Furthermore, the ITS Construction Management lecturer also said that ITS Mart has implemented technological aspects in its payments. In this case, consumers can pay using either cash or cashless methods. As for the retail system itself, ITS is collaborating with Indogrosir in realizing ITS Mart. “For his own working time, ITS Mart will be open every day from 07.00 am to 22.00 pm,” he added.

Meanwhile, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng expressed his gratitude to the parties involved in the establishment of ITS Mart in the economic area of the Keputih Region, Surabaya. The Chancellor, who is familiarly called Ashari, is sure that ITS Mart can be developed even better in the future.

Ashari said that the establishment of ITS Mart reviews the existence of three important dimensions that must be accommodated. The three dimensions include learning, social, and usefulness. In this case, the learning dimension in question is ITS Mart as a real entrepreneurship laboratory for ITS students. “Seeing that ITS has Business Management, Information Technology, and even interdisciplinary schools, ITS Mart can be a real learning platform for related study programs,” he said.

Apart from the learning dimension, Ashari also touched on the social dimension. In this case, the Chancellor who received the Honoring OzAlum Rectors award from the Australian Embassy (Embassy) wants to further expand his services to students and the surrounding community. This is a review of the number of students and the community living around ITS. “In the future, this number will become a problem if it is not matched with sufficient containers,” Ashari emphasized.

Furthermore, Ashari revealed that ITS will also help Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing a place to sell in the parking area. In addition, the opening of a Creative and Co-Working Space (CCWS) on the second floor of this building will make it easier for franchisees and MSMEs to market their products.

The last dimension that forms the basis for the establishment of ITS Mart is the usefulness dimension. Ashari believes ITS Mart can help the economy and ITS sustainability in the future. Reviewing the massive ITS sustainability plan, ITS Mart can become one of the revenue streams that supports this sustainability.
