Kampus ITS, ITS News – Graduating from college with excellent honors is the dream of many students, including Dyah Putri Nariswari. This student from the Informatics Engineering Department of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) successfully passed a Cumulative Achievement Index (GPA) of 4.00 or perfect and was named the best undergraduate (S1) graduate at the 128th ITS Graduation Ceremony.
Having started studying at ITS since 2019, this student who is familiarly called Putri admitted that she was a little behind her friends when she first started college. At the start of the course, he didn’t understand coding at all, in contrast to many of his friends in the department who had had the basics of coding since high school. “In the past, if my friend could work on a coding problem for an hour, it would take me all day to work on that problem,” said Putri, who will graduate on the fourth day, Sunday (24/9).
Apart from that, Putri also sometimes feels that she is lagging behind her friends who are active in various activities and excel. To overcome this, this girl from Surabaya made herself aware that everyone has their own timeline. Therefore, he admitted that he had to focus on achieving his goal of studying at ITS, namely gaining knowledge and gaining as much experience as possible.
Achieving in the academic field does not necessarily make Putri a passive student in non-academic activities. In fact, in his first year of college he tried to do an internship at a startup called Rindang which was founded by ITS students. This internship experience was an important first step in his career, even though at first he felt he didn’t have much ability. “At that time I didn’t have any experience and my friends there (startup, ed) helped me to develop and learn many things,” she recalled.
Putri revealed that her first internship with Rindang was a point for her to do internships in other places. After being in Rindang, Putri said that she had also done internships in three other places. In 2021, she had the opportunity to intern as a Data Analyst at Ternak Uang, then in 2022 Putri interned as a Software Development Engineer at Tokopedia.
Later in the same year, the daughter of Airlangga and Agung Retno Rachmawati also had an internship as a Risk Assurance officer at the well-known company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Indonesia. “Initially I didn’t have any special intentions to register for an internship, but the pandemic gave me lots of time to try lots of new things,” said the girl who was born in Surabaya, April 24 2001.
Not only doing internships, Putri is also active in committee and internationalization activities. He has served as Head of the talk show division at the Petrolida 2021 event and Head of the Public Relations Division at Schematics ITS 2021. For him, communication skills are an important asset for every individual. “With communication skills, we can express our thoughts so that other people can easily understand the contents of our thoughts,” said the youngest of the two brothers.
Apart from internship and committee experience, Putri also succeeded in obtaining international certifications that strengthen her skills, such as cyber security training certification from CISCO and cloud architecture from Amazon Web Services (AWS). “At first I was just interested and wanted to know more about cyber security so I took a course from Digitalent Kominfo,” she explained.
It didn’t stop there, Putri also succeeded in becoming an awardee of the first batch of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) at the University of Pisa, Italy, with one of the courses taken being Data Mining. During her study period at IISMA, Putri faced many challenges because the learning style was different from that taught at ITS which focused more on practice. “I had to adapt to a different and more theoretical learning method,” she added.
However, behind all her brilliant achievements, Putri also shared bitter experiences where she often faced rejection in various selection processes. However, he still maintains a positive attitude and realizes that not all opportunities can be taken. “I try to take advantage of every opportunity that exists, and if I am accepted, I always try to make a maximum contribution to maintaining a positive reputation,” he said.
Despite having a lot of experience outside of academics, Putri managed to maintain her focus on academic achievement by achieving a perfect GPA of 4.00. For him, the lecture process is not a competition, where there are winners and losers. Instead of competing, he prefers to collaborate. Apart from collaboration, adaptability is also an important key for him. “I always encourage my friends to study while building social relationships, because learning doesn’t have to be done alone,” he reminded me firmly.
Putri feels very grateful to be able to study at ITS because the Hero Campus offers many opportunities to its students, from careers to internationalization. Apart from that, he also felt that the lecturers at ITS were very supportive and helpful to their students. He hopes that the knowledge he has gained from ITS will not only be kept for himself, but can be useful for other people. (ITS Public Relations)
