ITS Campus, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to be committed to improving the quality of its human resources and excellence in research. Supporting this, ITS again officially confirmed its six new professors from various scientific disciplines on Wednesday (20/9).
In this momentum, which took place in the Auditorium of the ITS Research Center Building, ITS Chancellor, Prof Dr Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng IPU AEng, said that the number of professors dramatically influences the quality and ranking of a university. “The number of researchers at ITS is not as large as other universities, but we (ITS, red.) continue to increase our competitiveness in the research field,” he said optimistically.
This is proven by ITS research publications, which continue to increase compared to other universities based on the total number of researchers in recent years. “Since 2019, Alhamdulillah, ITS has succeeded in producing 50 new professors,” said the chancellor, familiarly called Ashari, proudly.
Starting the sacred inauguration procession, ITS 163rd professor Prof Dr Wahyu Wibowo SSi MSi delivered his scientific oration regarding developing multiresponse spline semiparametric models. This professor at the Department of Business Statistics explained that this model could be a strategy to increase accuracy in regression modelling (a method for understanding independent and dependent variables), which could optimize business decision-making.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Katherin Indriawati ST MT from the Department of Engineering Physics delivered a scientific oration to increase the system’s ability to work without failure in modern control systems. “There are three important strategies in this control system, namely sensorless control, Fault Tolerant Control (FTC), and fault detection and identification,” explained the 164th ITS professor.
Next, still related to control systems, Prof. Dr Trihastuti Agustinah ST MT from the Department of Electrical Engineering developed a stability method in robotic control systems. This innovation from ITS’s 165th professor focuses on stabilizing the tracking control system for train pendulums, drones and mobile robots, which are widely used for logistics fleets.
Next, turning to the science of animal physiology and ecotoxicology, ITS 166th professor Prof Dr Dewi Hidayati SSi MSi developed the optimization of the use of several organs from the fish body. One of them is catfish skin, which can be used as a source of halal gelatin. Apart from that, the Head of the ITS Biology Department also researched several vital fish organs which can be indicators of water quality.
Next, Prof Dr Tri Arief Sardjono ST MT from the ITS Biomedical Engineering Department also delivered a scientific oration regarding biomedical image analysis and processing in the medical field. This is realized in the development of the Spring Charged Particles Model (SCPM), a model that can follow the contours of objects of interest. “In the world of medicine, this model can help with more accurate medical diagnoses,” explained the 167th ITS professor.
Ending the Professor Council Open Session session, the 168th ITS professor, Prof. Dr. Drs Purhadi MSc, delivered his scientific oration on the science of mathematical statistics on spatial regression models. This model analyzes the correlation of statistical distributions that determine the significant factors of a phenomenon. “With this model, significant factors can be analyzed that influence various natural and social problems,” said the professor from the Department of Statistics.
Closing the series of solemn processions, the Chair of the ITS Professorial Council, Prof. Dr. Ir Imam Robandi MT, expressed his pride in the number of ITS professors, who now number 168. The Chair of the ITS Academic Senate, Prof Dr Syafsir Akhlus MSc, also expressed the same feeling. “Hopefully, the publications and productivity of our professors will increase,” concluded the ITS Chemistry professor.
