ITS Campus, ITS News – The Department of Geophysical Engineering at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has received a technology grant in the form of an academic license for tNavigator Software from the multinational company Rock Flow Dynamics. The grant, valued at IDR 82 billion, was virtually handed over to the Department of Geophysical Engineering at ITS on June 1st.
Dr. Dwa Desa Warnana SSi MSi, the Head of the Department of Geophysical Engineering at ITS, explained that this grant, in the form of computer-based software, plays a role in conducting reservoir simulations, which are underground areas containing petroleum. He emphasized that this application was chosen due to its up-to-date features and its support for academic activities for students.
In the field of geophysics, Professor Anang, as he is commonly known, mentioned that tNavigator Software has several specific functions that assist in data analysis and visualization. This application aids in the modeling and simulation of reservoirs using various methods, including seismic, gravity, geomagnetic, geoelectric, and electromagnetic methods.

Furthermore, Anang conveyed that the software developed by Rock Flow Dynamics can also assist in processing and analyzing geophysical data, such as density, seismic wave velocity, resistivity, permeability, and other data types. “Various types of data will be processed using the innovative features of tNavigator,” said the professor from the Geophysical Engineering and Environmental Laboratory.
Anang also revealed that this academic license grant comes with 16 modules. However, not all modules are applicable in the field of geophysics. Only a few modules can be used, such as Geology Designer, Model Designer, Fracture Simulator, Seismic, Well Design, and Geomechanics. “All of these modules can already be accessed on 12 computers in the Geophysical Engineering Department,” he explained.
To maximize the use of this software, the Geophysical Engineering Department, in collaboration with Rock Flow Dynamics, organized workshops for students. During the workshop held on September 8th, Tri Yudha Putra from Rock Flow Dynamics taught students how to use the application in a hybrid manner.
As an ITS alumnus, Tri Yudha Putra explained that the workshop he initiated aims to train students in the optimal use of tNavigator Software. “The hope is that this collaboration will enhance the knowledge and education of students in the Geophysical Engineering Department at ITS,” Anang concluded with optimism.
