ITS Campus, ITS News — The euphoria of the celebration of the 63rd Anniversary of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is getting hotter. This time, ITS is presenting a culinary festival wrapped in a traditional Indonesian cultural parade entitled Pasar Juang on 10 November. This event was held at ITS Alumni Park, on Saturday (4/11).
Starting in the afternoon, the main event of the ITS 63rd-anniversary celebration opened with a typical East Javanese art parade, Reog Ponorogo. The celebration continued with performances from the Student Activities Unit and other ITS academics. The enthusiasm of visitors adds to the excitement of this event.
Apart from Reog Ponorogo, this event was also enlivened by a neat display of traditional Ludruk arts. The spectacular performance and highlight of this event was a performance from comedians and the senior Ludruk group, which included Cak Lontong, Cak Kartolo, and Ludruk Tjap Tugu Pahlawan. In closing, the event ended with the melodious music of Campursari.
ITS Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng IPU AEng, said that Pasar Juang is here as a form of ITS’ concern in preserving traditional Indonesian culture which is increasingly being forgotten. This activity is also a concrete step for ITS to maintain the creativity of its students. “Especially in traditional arts that are close to the people,” he said.
This ITS Professor of Electrical Engineering also said that this event was an opportunity for ITS to get closer to the community. This step is a real manifestation of ITS expanding its benefits to society. “With the large number of spectators, it is proven that this good goal is realized,” he said.
Chief Executive of Pasar Juang, Ahmed Beryl Bayanaka, said that this event was very thick with a traditional atmosphere. This atmosphere is reflected in the various types of food sold and the appearance served. Not only that, the man who is often called Bil explained that at this event there was also a step screen which brought visitors back to feeling the traditional feel of the past.
Bil hopes that in the future Pasar Juang can become the main icon of ITS Anniversary. This activity is the right forum to fuel the enthusiasm of students’ struggle to preserve traditional Indonesian culture. “Also, events entitled to people’s entertainment like this can be a means for ITS to become better known and closer to the wider community,” he concluded.
