ITS Campus, ITS News – Continuing to prove its capacity at the international stage, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) succeeded in achieving 128th place in the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings (QS AUR). This ranking was announced at the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific (QS APAC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Wednesday (8/11).
The Senior Manager for World Class University, Directorate of Global Engagement (DKG) ITS, Rulli Pratiwi Setiawan ST MSc Ph.D., revealed that ITS managed to rise 18 rank from the previous year which was at the 146th rank. Furthermore, Rulli said that ITS itself managed to rank 6th in Indonesia. “Because of this achievement, ITS is increasingly showing its quality at the international stage,” she explained.
By means of its results this time, ITS managed to get a total score of 36.3. The details of the score assessment contain Academic Reputation 32.8; Employer Reputation 55.6; Faculty Students 52.9; Papers per Faculty 6.3; International Faculty 70.0; International Students 15.3; Inbound Exchange 94.0; and Outbound Exchange 94.2. “The total score has increased slightly compared to the previous year,” Rulli said.
In his assessment, the The lecturer from ITS Regional and City Planning (PWK) Department explained an important point that the QS AUR scores released in 2023 use the 2022 database for several types of submitted data, such as the number of lecturers and the number of students. The citation score is calculated based on the number of Scopus-indexed journal articles that have been published within five years, while citations will be calculated over 6 years.
Furthermore, the assessment for the Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation indicators, in this case, is calculated over the last five years. Rulli added that these two indicators are assessments that have consistently increased in the last two years. However, according to Rulli, ITS still has a difficult task to improve the International Research Network (IRN) indicators which have decreased in the last three years.
Responding to the significant increase in ITS ranking, this doctoral alumnus of Hiroshima University, Japan, admitted that she was very proud because ITS’s position at rank 128 has succeeded in outperforming several other well-known universities in Asia; such as Chonnam National University at the 157th, Nagasaki University at 170th rank, and the University of Seoul at the 174th rank. “However, ITS still needs a massive efforts to make many programs to improve ITS performance and reputation in the future,” she concluded.
