ITS Campus, ITS News –Consolidating itself as an international university, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to produce world pioneers who excel. This time, a lecturer from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD) ITS Sri Fatmawati SSi MSc PhD showed off her abilities by taking part in the World Class Professor (WCP) program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States.
The woman, often called Fatma, said that WCP is a program from the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) that aims to foster international cooperation between universities. This program is also a form of initiation of collaboration between ITS and MIT. “This is beneficial for ITS, considering that MIT is the number one university in the world,” she concluded.
Furthermore, the lecturer from Madura said the collaboration increased cooperation in the research sector in natural and synthetic chemicals. In this collaboration, ITS will be directly involved with the Whitehead Institute, a biological research institute that now collaborates with the MIT Department of Biology.
This collaboration has been going on since early September, starting with the visit of one of the professors from MIT, Prof Jingke Weng PhD, to the ITS campus. Jingke Weng visited to share knowledge about the research field he is involved in. At ITS itself, Jingke Weng gave various guest lectures and looked at the conditions of the chemistry laboratory at the Pahlawan Campus.
After this visit, the collaboration continued with a visit by this woman, born in 1980, to the MIT campus, which lasted for 17 days, starting on October 14. During the visit, Fatma was invited to review the conditions of laboratories, startups, and research at the Whitehead Institute. Fatma was also asked to participate in a seminar and was invited to tour the largest technology company in Boston.
The woman, once the President of the Indonesian Young Academy of Science (ALMI) organization, also said that this program was essential for ITS to increase ITS exposure in the research realm. It is believed that MIT, as one of the best universities in the world, will give its own color to ITS. “This can widen the world’s eyes to the goodness of ITS as a world-class university,” she said.
In the future, this collaboration can progress to the institutional cooperation stage. Apart from that, this bespectacled lecturer also hopes that the research studied will be helpful and make it easier for the global community to do their work. Lastly, with this collaboration, Fatma expects that ITS’ ranking as a world-class university will increase. (ITS Public Relations)
