ITS Campus, ITS News – Building public awareness and commitment to halal products must be encouraged. The lack of professional staff in selecting halal products has prompted the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) to establish a Halal Product Job Training Institute (LPK), which is now officially operational.
Head of the ITS Halal Study Center (PKH), Prof. Setiyo Gunawan ST PhD IPM, said that the ITS Halal Product LPK, which was inaugurated by the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPBJH), was here to train several halal professions to be able to meet the needs of business actors in the industrial sector in applying for halal certification. Therefore, ITS has been able to prepare training to provide competent professionals in applying for halal certificates.
Furthermore, the lecturer, Gunawan, explained that two professions are needed to apply for halal certification for industry: supervisor and auditor. A supervisor is a person who understands the product and is prepared by industrial business players to be responsible for halal certification. Meanwhile, auditors come from an institution that examines halal products. “Supervisors and auditors will be given training until they are competent enough,” he explained.
So far, until it was designated as a Halal Product LPK, ITS has made efforts to prepare competent human resources (HR) as resource persons. The resource persons who provide training come from ITS internal lecturers qualified in their respective fields. “The lecturers involved also have competency from the National Professional Standards Agency (BNSP),” explained the Professor of Chemical Engineering.
Officially, ITS Halal Products LPK is a form of synergy with the Tekno Science Academy (TSA) and PKH ITS. Training will be provided and carried out at the ITS TSA premises. Later, TSA will be tasked with training and assisting training participants directly. Meanwhile, PKH will help inspect the ITS Halal Product LPK itself.
Designed in such a way, the training is 26 hours long and divided into three days with a predetermined curriculum. In general, participants will be provided with basic knowledge of halal supervisors, work skills and competencies of halal supervisors, as well as information system applications. “The training is designed with a theory and practice system so that participants can be more embedded in the training,” said Gunawan.
Providing training was started in 2020 by PKH ITS. This training includes animal slaughter training, financial workshops, and others. However, the difference is that it has been inaugurated by the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPBJH), so it has received an official certificate.
In line with ITS’s goal to go global, the existence of this Halal Product LPK is clear evidence of bringing ITS more down to earth. With this, the ITS Halal Products LPK can meet the community’s needs, especially industrial business players. Apart from that, it also manifests the Tridharma of higher education as a disseminator of helpful knowledge. “As PKH ITS, we continue to be committed to advancing the Sharia economic and financial ecosystem,” stressed Gunawan.
