ITS Campus, ITS News – The election for the Chancellor of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), which started on October 19, is almost at its final stage. Currently, five of the 20 registered Candidates for Chancellor (Bacarek) have been selected and will enter the election process at the ITS Academic Senate level, tomorrow Friday (8/12).
The advanced stages of the ITS Regional Election process were conveyed by the Chairman of the ITS Board of Trustees (MWA) Prof Dr Ir Mohammad Nuh DEA in front of the media crew in a press conference held in the Main Meeting Room of the ITS Rectorate, Thursday (7/12). The five selected Bacarek were the result of aspiration screening at the academic community level starting from lecturers, educational staff (tendik), and students.
The professor of Electrical Engineering, who is usually called Nuh, said that the continuation of the selection of the chancellor candidate would be held behind closed doors and through a more intense process. “This selection process will select from the three selected candidates for chancellor the best candidate who will carry out the duties as ITS chancellor for the period 2024 – 2029,” explained Nuh.
The former Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia explained that five legislative candidates will continue the current regional election process. Namely Agus Muhammad Hatta MT MSi Ph.D. from the Department of Engineering Physics, Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof Dr. Ketut Buda Artana ST MSc from the Department of Shipping Systems Engineering, Dr. Ir Machsus ST MT from the Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering, and Prof Dr Ir Sri Gunani Partiwi MT from the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering.
The five bacarek were determined through an aspiration net of 29,123 people, namely 1,057 lecturers, 1,084 staff, and 26,982 ITS students through an online system called e-aspiration. “In detail, the votes reached 90.82 percent from lecturers, 91.33 percent from staff, and 55.29 percent from students,” said Nuh.
Furthermore, the Chair of the ITS Academic Senate (SA) Prof Dr Syafsir Akhlus MSc said that the election of three Chancellor Candidates (Carek) will be carried out through a Closed SA Session which will be held on December 8, 2023. At this election stage, all ITS SA members will be present. 71 people. “The candidates for the three candidates for chancellor will be announced via a press conference later,” said the man who is familiarly called Akhlus.
After that, the Pilrek process will reach the final stage with the election of the chancellor through a plenary meeting at the ITS Board of Trustees (MWA) which is also scheduled for this December. The names of the three selected carek will also be sent by the MWA to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to obtain votes from the Minister of Education and Culture. After receiving the minister’s vote, the election process was carried out again at the ITS MWA level to determine one person as the elected ITS Chancellor.
On the same occasion, ITS Chancellor Prof Dr Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng hopes that the regeneration of the position of chancellor will be able to continue the relay of ITS progress. Through this chancellor election, he also wants this process to become an event that can be trusted by all elements of the ITS community. “We want this chancellor election to be natural and natural without any cheating, to avoid things that are not good,” explained the Professor of Electrical Engineering.
Ashari said that the final stage of the rector selection process will be held on December 20 2023 by announcing the name of the selected rector. “Hopefully, this moment can give birth to a leader who can take ITS in a better direction,” he said optimistically. (ITS Public Relations)
