ITS Campus, ITS News – The enthusiasm of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in realizing sustainable development is reflected in its success in being ranked 7th in Indonesia’s Best Sustainable Higher Education according to UI Greenmetric 2023. This result also brings ITS to 44th international ranking out of 1,183 universities in the whole world.
UI Greenmetric itself is a ranking of the best green universities from various parts of the world initiated by the University of Indonesia (UI). This award aims to assess the level of commitment to sustainable management and development of a higher education institution. In 2023, there will be 51 assessment indicators divided into six criteria.
More specifically, the six criteria are regulation and infrastructure with a weight of 15 percent, energy and climate change with a weight of 21 percent, waste with a percentage of 18 percent, and water with a percentage of 10 percent. Meanwhile, the other 36 percent is assessed from transportation as well as research and education, each of which is 18 percent. Of these six criteria, ITS obtained a total score of 8,650 and obtained the highest score in the research and education criteria.
Chair of the ITS Smart Eco Campus Development Unit Dr Susi Agustina Wilujeng ST MT said that ITS succeeded in getting the highest score on the research and education criteria thanks to the synergy of lecturers and students in academic, research, and community service activities. These criteria include assessing lecturers’ research related to environmental issues and the number of courses related to sustainable development. “Student activities, such as Real Work Lectures (KKN), seminars, workshops, and environmental-related activities also have an influence,” he said.
Apart from the synergy of lecturers, students, and the ITS Smart Eco Campus Development Unit, the entire ITS academic community has also contributed to this success. This is because the ITS academic community has an important role in protecting the environment, starting from saving water and electricity, and managing waste, to planting trees. “Apart from that, the Facilities and Infrastructure Bureau, all departments, and all related directorates also contributed greatly to this achievement,” he said.

To increase ITS’s seriousness in realizing sustainability, Susi and her team also have plans to draw up a roadmap to create a sustainable campus with various parties at ITS. “With this roadmap, we hope that all ITS academics have the same goal,” explained the bespectacled woman.
Through this award, Susi hopes that this achievement can become momentum for ITS to continue optimizing sustainable development. He hopes that campus environmental management by sustainability principles will continue to be improved. “It is hoped that the flame of ITS enthusiasm can continue to be maintained by the entire ITS academic community,” he concluded encouragingly.
