ITS Campus, ITS News – An emotional atmosphere enveloped the graduation ceremony on the first day of the 129th Graduation Ceremony of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) at Graha Sepuluh Nopember ITS, Saturday (20/4). This emotion was especially felt by the family of Muhammad Burhanudin, an undergraduate graduate from the Department of Civil Engineering who died a few days before the graduation ceremony.
According to information received, the late Muhammad Burhanudin had a traffic accident around the Osowilangon Terminal on the Surabaya-Gresik border on March 30, 2024. The deceased had an accident by hitting a truck while driving alone at night on his way to Gresik.
Titisari Haruming Tyas, the deceased’s only older brother, who was also present at the graduation ceremony, shared the struggle of his younger brother, who was often called Udin, to achieve a bachelor’s degree. This woman, who is familiarly called Titis, feels saluted and proud of the tenacity of her late sister, who managed to graduate from the ITS Civil Engineering Department in just 3.5 years.
The hard work and sacrifices made by the late Udin were successfully paid off with a bachelor’s degree, which he officially held at the graduation ceremony. “What I applaud about him is that he never complains and is always grateful,” said Titis, proud of his late sister’s tenacity.
Not only that, Titis also said that Udin, who was born in Kediri on July 19, 2002, was a child who was diligent and devoted to his parents, namely the couple Sudjoko and Deni Puji Restanti. This can be seen in his activities during college, including participating in various organizations and winning several competitions. Among other things, he won 3rd place in Geotechnical Analysis at the Civil National Expo and 1st place in the National Geotechnic Competition Civil Week 2023.
In completing her final assignment, Titis and her parents also supported the youngest of the two siblings by always providing encouragement and love. In the end, Udin managed to complete his final assignment in a short time and achieved cum laude with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.82. “So he really wants to make his parents really proud, and that’s what makes my parents really proud of him,” she said with emotion.
Not only his family, but respect and appreciation for Udin were also given by his friends and even his supervisor. Every week, Udin always tries to contact his supervisor so that the final assignment he is working on can be completed quickly. “After being declared a graduate and waiting for graduation, the deceased had also been accepted for work in the Gresik Industrial Area,” said Titis, who was present with her husband accompanying her father.
The emotional moment at the graduation ceremony was felt when the name of the deceased was called to receive his graduation diploma. The audience’s applause seemed to support the deceased’s father, who was accompanied by his brother and her husband when he went up on stage to represent the late Udin and receive a diploma from the chancellor. With teary eyes, the father received his late son’s undergraduate diploma from ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari Meng.
From his younger brother’s struggle, Titis advised all students who are struggling to graduate never to give up hope. He also did not forget to advise people to always maintain health and safety when driving to avoid unwanted accidents. “Keep your enthusiasm; God willing, you will definitely graduate at the right time,” hoped the alumnus of the ITS Urban and Regional Planning degree.
