ITS Campus, ITS News — The heating up of the issue of Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT) has recently become a controversy across the country. In response, the Rector of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopmeber (ITS) Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD confirmed that at the moment the ITS UKT has not experienced an increase.

Before finally being cancelled, it was time to establish the 2nd Year 2024 Memorandum on the Standar Satuan Biaya Operasional Pendidikan Tinggi (SSBPOT) on January 19, 2024, which made several state colleges in Indonesia raise their respective UKT fees. As a result, the move got a strong reaction from the public, especially among students.

The troubling issue of the homeland education world has troubled most of the associated communities. In response to this, Bambang informed that the increase is not applicable in the ITS. “ITS does not increase or decrease,” he assured.

Since the academic year 2013/2014, ITS has implemented the division of UKT into seven groups for the track of achievement as well as the written test. The division is from group 1 to 7 with a cost range ranging from Rp 500 thousand to Rp 7.5 million. Meanwhile, for the path of Self and Partnership then charged UKT from group 7 to 9 with a range of costs from Rp 7,5 million to Rp 12.5 million per semester.

The instructor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering said, ITS preferred to re-examine the compatibility between the UKT category and the financial situation of the students rather than raising the cost of UKT. In order to realize the idea, the ITS established the addition of a UKT group into nine groups for regular or independent. “This is the first attempt (UKT group) of ITS in settling the academic needs and financial conditions of students,” it was clear.

For Seleksi Nasional Berdasarkan Prestasi (SNBP), Seleksi Nasional Berdasarkan Tes Tulis (SNBT), and Seleksi Mandiri Beasiswa will be charged UKT from groups 1 to 9 with a cost range ranging from Rp 500 thousand to Rp 12.5 million per semester. However, the General Self-selection and Partnership Track remains charged UKT from group 7 to 9 at a cost from Rp 7.5 million to Rp 12,5 million per semester. “This change in the UKT group is beginning to apply to new students in this 2024/2025 academic year,” Bambang said.

Hopefully, with this adjustment, the teaching process conducted at ITS can be more appropriate and does not restrict the student’s space to continue to gain knowledge and contribute to the country. “ITS will always focus on providing opportunities for all students to stay in college,” he said optimistic.
