ITS Campus, ITS News — The 21st ASEAN University Games (AUG) men’s handball competition officially concluded on Sunday night (30/6). The closing ceremony was held at the Pertamina Sports Hall of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) right after the final match between the Malaysian and Singaporean teams.
ITS Rector, Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MScEng, PhD, IPU, AEng, expressed his appreciation to all the teams for competing in a sportsmanlike manner. He extended his gratitude not only to the players but also to the organizers for their thorough preparation. “This is my first time watching handball, and I am very excited to see this match,” he said.

Additionally, Bambang congratulated the Malaysian team for securing the championship in the 21st AUG men’s handball event. The Malaysian team claimed the title after a fierce 60-minute match against Singapore, followed by a 10-minute overtime. Malaysia managed to clinch the victory with a final score of 28-26.

The victory achieved by the Malaysian team in the final automatically placed the Singaporean team in the runner-up position, followed by the Indonesian team securing third place in this competition.
In addition to winning the championship, Malaysian player Chee Woon Chong was also named the best player of the tournament. “This victory for Malaysia is certainly thanks to the support of the team, coaches, and supporters,” said Chee.

Furthermore, the title of best goalkeeper was awarded to Isaac Koh Vern, and the top scorer accolade went to Jin Dar, Edwin Chew. Both players are from the Singaporean team. (ITS Public Relations)
