ITS Campus, ITS News — A prestigious achievement has once again been secured by a student from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). Tepy Lindia Nanta, a student from the Instrumentation Engineering Department, successfully earned the title of second-place winner in the Diploma category at the 2024 National Pilmapres (Selection of Outstanding Students) competition.
Reaching this point was not easy, Tepy admitted. She faced numerous challenges that could have derailed her journey. However, the support and motivation from various parties gave her the confidence to endure the long process, filled with both joys and hardships.
A video production expert, Tepy started this journey by participating in the outstanding student selection (mawapres) at the faculty and institutional levels. After smoothly advancing, the 2022 cohort student represented ITS at the provincial level, having secured first place in the Diploma category.
As one of two ITS representatives at the regional level, Tepy’s enthusiasm soared as she prepared the necessary documents and requirements. Although she couldn’t secure first place at the regional level, finishing third due to incomplete parameters, she remained undeterred. “Some parameters lacked points due to incomplete details, so I had to settle for third place,” said the Bojonegoro-born student, born on March 16, 2004.
Despite this, Tepy did not lose heart. The daughter of Tohir and Puji Astutik viewed this as an opportunity for self-evaluation. As the sole ITS representative at the national level, she accelerated her preparations, resulting in a second-place victory at the National Pilmapres this year.
A graduate of SMAN 9 Surabaya who frequently publishes books, Tepy mentioned that her achievements were greatly aided by her activities and engagements over recent semesters. These activities provided additional value in the parameters of her outstanding achievements. Among them was her success with the ITS electric vehicle research team, Anargya, and her role as a speaker and moderator at major seminars, including presenting on technology and innovation related to the environment at the National Green Generation Jamboree (JNGH).
As an Instrumentation Engineering student, Tepy is passionate about developing appropriate technology. This passion was evident in her participation in this annual selection. For the innovative product parameter, she presented a smart hydro system, a solution for hydroponic farmers requiring growth variables for better quality output.
This product allows farmers to monitor pH, nutrients, light intensity, room temperature, and water temperature, thus better controlling plant growth. The IoT-based product can also be controlled via an application. “With this product, it is hoped that hydroponic farmers will find their work easier,” said the student who is also active in community service.
With this achievement, the eldest of two siblings hopes to continue implementing her research and to make a greater impact on society and the environment, especially in education, agriculture, and health fields. (ITS Public Relations)
