The joint degree program graduates of ITS Shipbuilding Engineering Department and their relatives captured the moment after graduation ceremony with ITS and MNU leaders and lecturers.
ITS ITS Campus News — By participating in joint degree program with Mokpo National University (MNU), ITS Shipbuilding Engineering Department enhanced 25 more excellent graduates in a graduation ceremony held in Mokpo, South Korea, Thursday (22/8). Three master students who had participated in joint degree scholarship program proposed by ITS Shipbuilding Engineering Department also graduated at the first batch of this graduation ceremony.
The joint degree program, which has existed since 2018, continues to enhance quality and global-minded graduates. The Head of ITS Shipbuilding Engineering Department Ir Wasis Dwi Aryawan MSc PhD revealed that at the third batch of graduation ceremony, the Department also successfully presented two more graduates to the world’s largest shipyard branch industry, HD Hyundai MIPO (HMD) in South Korea.
The graduates who have successfully entered the world’s leading shipping industry are Karina Mutyahara and William Alexander Garcia Leonarto. Their success is the result of a long process supported by the experts and excellent curriculum based on the collaboration between ITS and MNU. This achievement is also an evidence that cross-country academic collaboration can produce graduates who are recognized by the world’s leading industries.
Moreover, Wasis also revealed that there was one of ITS joint degree students who received the Academic Excellence award form MNU at this year’s graduation for the first time named Jonathan Riccardo. This student also got an opportunity to continue his master degree in Mokpo Maritime University (MMU).

A lot of achievements created by the students of ITS Shipbuilding Engineering Department joint degree program not only become a personal pride, but also a reflection of the program success that has been conducted. These achievements can also show high quality of education provided by ITS Shipbuilding Engineering joint degree program.
South Korea has currently the largest shipbuilding product capacity in the world. Eight of them are part of the 10 largest shipyards in the world. “If the industry in a country is advanced, then so are the universities that provide the human resources,” Wasis said.
Mokpo City is one of the important shipping industry centers in South Korea, making MNU as the right university for having collaboration in maritime education. The plan of relocating shipyards from South Korea to developing countries such as Indonesia is an opportunity for them to strengthen the relationship between MNU and ITS. “Both parties have the same goal in advancing the world shipping industry,” Wasis added.
