ITS Campus, ITS News – In line with its commitment to improving human resources, the Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB), Abdullah Azwar Anas SPd SS MSi, addressed the Civil Servants (ASN) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) on Monday (2/9). The event, attended by hundreds of faculty and educational staff, took place at the ITS Research Center Auditorium.
Opening the event, ITS Rector Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD emphasized ITS’s strong commitment, as one of Indonesia’s leading state universities with legal entity status (PTNBH), to continuously developing the competencies and capabilities of its ASNs. “We realize that career development for ASNs is crucial in improving institutional performance and productivity,” he stated.
During this event, titled “Policy Dialogue on Civil Servant Career Development,” the Dean of the Faculty of Creative Design and Digital Business (FDKBD), Ellya Zulaikha ST MSn PhD, had the opportunity to express her concerns regarding the challenges faced by design or art lecturers in achieving professor status. According to her, this issue not only affects ITS lecturers but also hinders the development of the design field in Indonesia.
Despite many design lecturers producing high-quality work that has gained international recognition and has been applied in large-scale global projects, they often encounter obstacles during the promotion process to professor. “These lecturers, despite their outstanding work, frequently face issues due to certain requirements that are deemed too complicated and irrelevant to their field of expertise,” explained the lecturer from ITS’s Department of Industrial Product Design.
In response, Minister PAN-RB, commonly known as Anas, assured that efforts would be made to simplify the bureaucracy to help design lecturers achieve professor status. Plans are underway to establish simpler and more relevant evaluation standards, along with sufficient administrative support to assist lecturers in handling promotion paperwork. “We will create easier regulations to facilitate design lecturers in obtaining the title of professor,” promised the former Banyuwangi Regent.
Additionally, Anas explained that the PAN-RB Ministry has already streamlined the process for using public applications owned by regional governments. As part of efforts toward centralization and efficiency, the central government is pushing for system integration to standardize public services across Indonesia.
In this regard, ITS is expected to be a pioneer in encouraging regional governments to integrate their existing applications. This move is also anticipated to improve public services, making them more efficient and accessible to the public. “Optimizing existing applications will make it easier for the public to access these services,” concluded Anas at the end of the discussion.
