ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again maintained its commitment by winning the Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2024 as the 3rd Best University at the SDGs Annual Conference 2024. The award, which was given at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, Monday (7/10), is a major milestone for ITS in emphasizing its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia from across sectors.
Without any hesitation, the prestigious award was directly given by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Ma’ruf Amin, who was accompanied by the Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa to the Rector of ITS, Ir Bambang Pramujati MSc Eng PhD. This achievement is the second time in a row for ITS in the same event by topping the quality education sector, employment, and green industry towards inclusive and equitable development for all.
The Rector, who is familiarly called BP, expressed his pride in the achievements that ITS has managed to achieve, especially through innovations and programs driven by the ITS SDGs Study Center. According to him, ITS continues to be committed to being a pioneer in education that is relevant to the development and sustainability of the times. “One of the main efforts made is to integrate smarter digital-based education,” he explained.
ITS also focuses on improving the quality of graduates who are ready to compete in the industrial world, especially in the era of digital transformation. BP added that many ITS alumni are now working in rapidly growing startups and earning decent incomes. “This is one indicator of ITS’s success in producing graduates who are able to adapt to the needs of modern industry,” explained the lecturer from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In addition to strengthening the education sector, ITS is also improving its facilities with the smart class concept. Almost all classes at ITS are now equipped with modern technology to support a more interactive learning process. According to BP, this development is supported by significant funds to ensure that each class has adequate facilities to improve the quality of education.
Accompanying BP, the Head of the ITS SDGs Study Center, Dr. Dra. Melania Suweni Muntini MT, also revealed that not only on campus, ITS also pays great attention to community service activities (abmas) and collaboration with various parties. “We provide various training, with the hope that the community can be better at facing future challenges through abmas activities,” added the lecturer from the ITS Physics Department.
Through community service in recent years, ITS has continued to prepare itself to welcome Indonesia Emas 2045. This is not only seen from the programs on campus, but also through ITS’s contribution to the green industry sector based on renewable technology. The woman who is familiarly called Melani emphasized that ITS is always ready to face various challenges, even when new requests suddenly arise.
According to BP again, this award received by ITS shows the importance of the role of research and technology in achieving sustainable development goals. With the increasing issues of climate change, new renewable energy, and environmental sustainability, universities such as ITS are required to continue to innovate and develop sustainable solutions. ITS has shown that through technology and education, the achievement of SDGs can be driven faster and more efficiently.
With this award, BP continued, ITS will continue to be ready to strengthen its reputation and position as a pioneer in sustainable technological innovation. With the support of the entire academic community and solid collaboration with the government and community, ITS is ready to commit to continuing to contribute to the national and international arena. “Moving together through research, education, and community service that focuses on sustainability,” said BP motivatingly.
