ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is committed to providing equal opportunities for researchers from all walks of life. This is realized by ITS by hosting the Symposium on Inclusive Collaborative Research held at the GRIT Hall of the ITS Research Center Building, Monday (10/21).
This activity is an agenda initiated by the Organization for Women in Science for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Indonesia. With the theme Fostering Diversity in Science, OWSD Indonesia collaborated with five universities in presenting various experienced speakers. The five universities are ITS, Brawijaya University, Hasanuddin University, Padjajaran University, and Lambung Mangkurat University.
Not only a place to exchange ideas, this event also launched the OWSD Inclusive Collaborative Research (OWSD-ICR) Program. “This event is the beginning for universities to start inclusive research collaboration which will involve researchers from various universities,” said ITS Rector Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD in his speech as the host.
The man who is familiarly called BP saw that there was a great opportunity for benefit from this activity. BP said that each university involved in this agenda had equally strong resources. Both in terms of human resources, finances, and networks. “If combined, our resources will be even greater and we can do more good things,” said the lecturer from the ITS Mechanical Engineering Department.
In line with what BP said, President of OWSD Indonesia Sri Fatmawati SSi MSc PhD explained that OWSD-ICR is a joint initiative to empower each other. The goal is to increase the participation of female researchers through inclusive research collaboration, encourage diversity in global scientific research, and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the end of her speech, the woman who is familiarly called Fatma emphasized that inclusiveness is not only about men and women. Furthermore, inclusiveness is about providing equal access to all groups. “So, let’s increase the meaning of inclusiveness because science is not only about us, but science is the path to humanity,” said the lecturer of the ITS Chemistry Department.
