ITS Campus, ITS News — Proving itself as a home for champions, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) managed to make a brilliant achievement as General Champion in the 2024 Indonesian Ship Contest (KKI). In the closing ceremony that took place at the Surabaya State Shipbuilding Polytechnic (PPNS), Sunday (27/10) night, four proud ITS research teams were announced as General Champions and managed to bring home four championship trophies.
KKI 2024, formerly known as the National Unmanned Fast Boat Contest (KKCTBN), is a prestigious competition in the shipping sector initiated by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas). Focusing on the development of ship technology, the competition, which this time passed 101 teams from 45 universities in Indonesia as finalists, encourages students to innovate and contribute to maximizing Indonesia’s maritime potential.
In the competition, four research teams from ITS successfully won four champions in two competition categories, namely Design and Prototype. In the Design category, the DNA Hydromodelling team won first place in the Design and Construction Innovation subcategory. Meanwhile, the ITS Nawasena team also strengthened its position at the top by taking first place in the Machinery and Electrical Systems Innovation subcategory.
Not to be missed, the Arkana ITS team won third place in the same category with the Special Equipment Innovation subcategory. While in the Prototype category, the Barunastra ITS team recorded an achievement by winning second place in the Fuel Engine Remote Control subcategory.
The General Manager of the Nawasena ITS team, Ramadhan Rizky, revealed that there were several innovations brought to this competition. By using an automatic navigation system created with the RRT star and SAC algorithms, the ship named KRI Archatalla is able to navigate independently by intelligently adjusting the direction and route of the ship.
The team, which is under the guidance of Dr. Achmad Baidowi ST MT and Prof. Dr. Ir. Agoes Santoso MSc, also innovated the propeller system. By using the Boss Cap Fins propeller, the efficiency of the KRI Archatalla ship continues to increase. “This gives our ship more optimal thrust so that it can move more efficiently,” said Rama.
In addition, the ITS Nawasena team uses diesel electric technology combined with methanol fuel. This innovation is able to reduce carbon emissions produced so that the ship becomes environmentally friendly. “We are trying to create a ship with optimal performance while not polluting the environment,” he explained.
On the other hand, in the Fuel Engine Remote Control subcategory, the ITS Barunastra team was challenged to be able to direct the ship through the goal and around two balls. The activity was carried out twice with the first lap divided without load and the second lap with an additional load of 5 kilograms.
Even so, according to David Abinayya as the pilot of the ship made by the ITS Barunastra team, he did not find it difficult to complete the challenge thanks to the innovation in the ship’s hull. The ship named MV Ginvera is designed with a hull type that can accommodate large loads so that it remains stable at high speeds. “This year’s assessment also includes the design of the ship’s size, the design of the ship’s superstructure, and overall performance,” added David.
Thanks to the expertise of the four research teams that joined KKI this year, ITS managed to achieve the highest overall points in each category and was crowned the General Champion of KKI 2024. This achievement further strengthens ITS’ position as a campus that is consistent in producing innovators in the field of maritime technology.
The KKI 2024 event is an important momentum for ITS to continue to strengthen its reputation as a leading campus in the field of marine and shipping technology. Rama and David hope that this brilliant achievement can be maintained and be able to bring ITS’s name to the international arena. (ITS PUBLIC RELATIONS)
