ITS Campus, ITS News —Losing a pet is a sad thing for its owners. To anticipate this, a team of Intitut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) students called Hound created a bag for pet dogs with a tracking feature as a remote location monitoring tool.
Hound ITS team leader Johnathan Philbert said that the bag, called The Frontier Pack, is here to prevent the loss of pet dogs while playing outdoors. Through the Find My application, pet owners can easily locate their pets. “So the GPS tracker that we made can directly connect to the owner’s smartphone,” explained the young man who is familiarly called John.
Not only as a tracker, John and four other team members also designed this bag functionally by providing various pockets to carry dog necessities. That way, the potential for owner and pet dog items to be scattered or lost can be minimized. “Firstly, it is hygienic, secondly, it will not be a hassle to take out the pet’s belongings because the items are separated,” he explained the benefits of this saddle bag for dogs.
Furthermore, John mentioned that this bag is only intended for medium and large dogs. It aims to maintain the safety of the dogs by not carrying too much weight on their bodies. To ensure this, the team from the ITS Industrial Product Design Department developed a 3D sizing website feature using Augmented Reality (AR) that allows buyers to visualize various sizes of bags when used by their dogs.
In the process, the bag, designed since January, has sold 10 products through social media and e-commerce. Apart from these platforms, the young man from Bandung also organized hiking activities with the dog community in his hometown to expand his market. “Next, we will develop and collaborate with other communities,” he said.
In the future, John hopes that the bags that have been designed to be waterproof can also reach foreign markets. Given that the market is not yet crowded, the ITS Campus Ambassador 2022 finalist also wants to expand his business sector to dog accessories and needs. “Because many people actually need pet apparel like this that provides needs for their pets,” he said.
Through this innovation, the team guided by Audit Yulardi ST MDs was able to win a silver medal for posters in theEntrepreneurship Student Creativity Program (PKM-K) categoryat the 37th National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas), some time ago. Furthermore, John emphasized that he would try to develop his innovation by improving quality and expanding his market with dog communities in Indonesia. (ITS PR)
