ITS Campus, ITS News — The 64th Anniversary celebration of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has reached its peak at the ITS Graha Sepuluh Nopember, Monday (11/11). Interestingly, at the peak of this celebration, ITS gave the Sepuluh Nopember award to the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) General TNI (ret.) Prabowo Subianto who has been considered to have contributed and had an extraordinary impact on the nation and state.
The highest award from ITS was symbolically presented by ITS Chancellor Prof. Ir. Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD. Considering that currently President Prabowo is still on a state visit to several countries. Previously, similar awards were also given to several important national figures, including the former President of the Republic of Indonesia, the late KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia H Jusuf Kalla, former Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. H Emil Salim, and several other important figures.
On this occasion, President Prabowo through the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Dr. Ir. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro delivered a scientific oration virtually. In his oration, Satryo emphasized the strategic role of universities in supporting the five main targets of national development initiated by President Prabowo.
These targets include poverty reduction, food and energy self-sufficiency, appropriate distribution of subsidies through digital technology, and downstreaming of commodities to strengthen the national economy. Universities, according to Satryo, are expected to not only produce competent graduates, but also play an active role in the socio-ecological and economic reforms needed in Indonesia.
Dalam menjalankan peran tersebut, lanjut Satryo, perguruan tinggi didorong untuk fokus pada penciptaan pengetahuan dan inovasi. “Tentunya melalui riset interdisipliner yang mampu memecahkan masalah nyata di masyarakat,” tambah Guru Besar Teknik Mesin Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) ini.
Lebih lanjut, Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi (Dirjen Dikti) periode 1999 – 2007 ini juga menekankan pentingnya etika dan kepemimpinan di kalangan akademisi, terutama dalam pengambilan keputusan yang berdampak sosial. “Dengan demikian, perguruan tinggi tidak hanya mendidik intelektual, tetapi juga membentuk pemimpin yang memiliki kepedulian untuk mewujudkan masa depan yang lebih baik,” papar Satryo mengingatkan.
Sementara itu, dalam gelaran bertema Sinergi Meraih Prestasi ini juga disampaikan Laporan Tahunan Rektor 2024. Dalam laporannya, rektor menegaskan komitmen ITS terhadap tujuan pembangunan nasional lewat program Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) di berbagai program Quick Win. “Salah satunya, peningkatan infrastruktur kampus ramah lingkungan, pembangunan laboratorium energi terbarukan sebagai proyek living laboratory pertama di Indonesia,” ujarnya.
Bambang reported that ITS’ academic achievements increased significantly with a graduate absorption rate of 93.7 percent into the workforce, entrepreneurship, or further studies within six months of graduation. The number of ITS students participating in international exchange programs reached 687 people, which is a real manifestation of ITS in increasing global competitiveness through cross-country academic experiences.
After 64 years of work, ITS has shown its dedication through community service programs that have had a broad impact. Throughout 2024, ITS has succeeded in creating 103 innovative products that are utilized by various levels of society and fostering 228 villages in Indonesia. “The goal is to strengthen food security, the application of appropriate technology, and local empowerment to improve community welfare,” said the ITS Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
With these various achievements and strategic programs, ITS is committed to further strengthening its role as a world-class university that excels in education and innovation. To achieve this vision, ITS has set an optimistic target to enter the world’s top 500 rankings. “Moving together through synergy in improving the quality of education, research, and international collaboration,” he said.
On the same occasion, ITS also presented the Angka Nitisastro award to the former ITS Chancellor for the 2015-2019 period Prof. Joni Hermana MSc ES PhD as a sign of honor for achievements, works, or services that have a major impact on the development of ITS. The prestigious Wira Adhiwasesa award was also given to two ITS alumni, namely, the former Mayor of Surabaya for the 2021-2024 period Dr. Eri Cahyadi ST MT and the Directorate General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia Ir. Sigit Reliantoro MSc.
In addition, several other prestigious awards were also given such as Wira Adhibrata, Mitra Acityaharta, Mitra Wirausaha, Media Partner, Internal Quality Assurance Implementer, and Overseas Partner. The awards given are intended for figures and partners who have contributed to helping the development of ITS into a world-class campus, as well as contributing to Indonesia.
This year’s ITS annual ceremony was also attended by several important guests, including the Minister of Social Affairs of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2020-2024 period Dr (HC) Ir Hj Tri Rismaharini MT, Head of the East Java High Prosecutor’s Office Dr Mia Amiati SH MHum CSSSL, a number of university rectors in Indonesia, a number of work partners, to former ITS rectors and other ITS leaders. Also enlivened by musical performances from the Stradivari Orchestra, BandITS, and the ITS Student Choir (PSM) as well as Indonesian dance performances from a number of foreign students at ITS.
