ITS Campus, ITS News — The uneven distribution of halal certification in the food business, especially in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), has encouraged Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) research team to develop the Halal Augmented Reality Information System (SIAR Halal) application. This application can make it easier for the public to search, review, and validate the halal status of an MSME product or service, thereby creating a transparent halal economic environment.
ITS SIAR Halal Team Member Hadziq Fabroyir PhD explained that the SIAR Halal application comes with attractive and useful features and displays. This is because the application system is integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) which can improve the user experience. “The gamification feature also makes the use of the application more interactive,” he added.
The Head of the ITS Digital Application and Platform Subdirectorate said that the application with a main display like the popular Pokemon GO game encourages public awareness of product halal information with a unique approach. With gamification, the application features are designed to increase user participation. One of them is through a points system, badges, and weekly and monthly challenges.
Furthermore, Hadziq explained that the SIAR Halal application uses a location map with a display like an online game to show the location of food businesses that have been certified halal. After finding a place to eat, users can scan the halal status, summary, and reviews directly using a smartphone camera. “Users can also provide reviews to business places in the form of sound and images,” he added.
Implementation of gamification features in the SIAR Halal application in the form of a point system, badges, and weekly and monthly challenges that can improve user experience and participation. The ITS Informatics Engineering Department lecturer revealed that the features of the SIAR Halal application run with AI and AR technology, where AI is used to process and analyze location data and reviews from eating places and MSMEs. In addition, the AI feature also provides product recommendations based on user preferences. Meanwhile, AR together with the visual positioning system (VPS) is used to validate consumer locations and present animations of halal certification displays.
On the other hand, the application initiated by the team chaired by Prof. Nur Aini Rakhmawati SKom MScEng PhD from the ITS Information Systems Department is not only useful for consumers looking for halal products and services. However, this application also provides benefits for business people. Among other things, it encourages businesses to obtain halal certification and create a transparent halal economic environment.
With its innovation that brings a myriad of benefits, the team, which also consists of Irmasari Hafidz MSc and Siska Arifiani MKom, has succeeded in becoming part of the top 25 winners of the Bank Indonesia Research Grant (RGBI) 2024. This achievement also brings SIAR Halal closer to its big goal, which is to become an application that benefits the younger generation and supports the halal economy. “We are optimistic that this appreciation is a good first step for ITS to make a wider contribution to the halal ecosystem in Indonesia,” Hadziq said optimistically.
