ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) together with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) inaugurated the ITS Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), Wednesday (20/11). Inaugurated in the Prof. Handayani Hall of the ITS Informatics Engineering Department Building, this activity is a concrete form of increasing cyber resilience in higher education.
In his remarks, ITS Vice Rector III Imam Baihaqi ST MSc PhD reminded about the concerns about cyber leak cases in Indonesia, lately. According to him, cases related to data security are things that threaten the country’s resilience. “The country’s resilience will be questioned if its cyber resilience is very vulnerable,” said the lecturer at the ITS Business Management Department. Imam also emphasized the various crimes that threaten cyber security. He conveyed this considering the current form of cyber security which is not static. Every day, cyber threats continue to innovate which makes handling them increasingly difficult. “To balance this, the security team must be one step ahead in innovating,” he explained.
ITS Vice Chancellor III Imam Baihaqi ST MSc PhD reminded of how terrible the cyber leak cases in Indonesia were. The statement was confirmed by the Deputy for Cyber Security and Government Encryption and Human Development of BSSN Dr. Sulistyo SSi ST MSi. He explained how serious the threats and challenges to data security are. At least, until September 2024, there were 148,727,908 traffic anomalies in 2024.
Sulistyo advised that all government agencies in Indonesia should not forget cybersecurity in building infrastructure or providing applications and services to the public. According to him, cybersecurity is an important thing and needs to be handled with focus.
Deputy for Cyber Security and Government Encryption and Human Development BSSN Dr Sulistyo SSi ST MSi while presenting data on cyber anomalies in Indonesia in the last few monthsEnding his speech, Sulistyo also appreciated ITS’s steps in improving cyber resilience through the ITS CSIRT. The appreciation was given in the form of ratification and inauguration of the ITS special cyber security team directly.
Meanwhile, the CSIRT itself is a special team that has the responsibility to prevent, detect, and handle cyber problems that threaten ITS data. The Head of the ITS CSIRT, Hatma Suryotrisongko MKom PhD explained that the CSIRT has three missions, namely coordinating, improving reliability, and increasing the capacity of human resources (HR) for cyber security services at ITS.
Hatma also revealed that in the future CSIRT will continue to be committed to improving cybersecurity for data owned by ITS. The hope is that CSIRT can become the vanguard of cybersecurity at ITS and become one of the pioneers of university cybersecurity teams in Indonesia. (ITS PUBLIC RELATIONS)
