ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental concern by achieving 8th place in the Best Sustainable Higher Education in Indonesia according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024. Through technological innovation and the implementation of the smart eco-campus concept, this achievement also brought ITS to 70th international ranking out of 1,477 universities in 94 countries.

This award was received directly by ITS Chancellor Prof. Ir. Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD in a ceremonial event held at Padjadjaran University, Bandung, Tuesday (17/12). Responding to this achievement, Bambang said that this achievement is a real manifestation of collaboration and hard work of the entire ITS community. “All campus elements have made efforts to create a learning environment that supports academic development while considering aspects of environmental sustainability,” he said in appreciation.

According to Bambang, this recognition reflects ITS’s success in integrating technology, innovation, and sustainability in every aspect of campus life. This effort is the result of hard work together involving all levels of ITS to create a campus ecosystem. “Of course, one that is environmentally friendly, efficient, and sustainable,” he added.

In this year’s UI GreenMetric, three main aspects are the focus and strength of ITS. Namely waste management, energy efficiency, and water management. These three aspects are optimized through various superior technology-based programs. One of the main programs is a digital energy monitoring system that is able to control and minimize energy consumption in real time.

In addition, Bambang revealed, an integrated waste management program from upstream to downstream has been implemented by involving students and education personnel (tendik). ITS also developed a recycling program by involving active participation from various parties. “The Eco-Campus program that was implemented has succeeded in integrating academic aspects, research, and sustainability practices in one campus ecosystem,” said the professor of the ITS Mechanical Engineering Department.

Not only focusing on the development of physical infrastructure, Bambang explained, ITS also instills sustainability values ​​through academic and research aspects. An adaptive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-based curriculum and innovative environmentally-oriented research activities are the main drivers of the campus in supporting the achievement of global sustainable development goals.

One of ITS’s flagship programs is an environmentally friendly transportation system that combines green transportation modes with Internet of Things (IoT)-based technology. This program not only helps reduce carbon emissions from transportation activities on campus, but also becomes a means of education for students to understand the importance of technology in responding to environmental challenges.

Furthermore, the 13th Chancellor of ITS added that the award will be a spur for ITS to continue innovating in the fields of technology and sustainability. “This award is a motivation for us (ITS) to continue to move forward to create a campus that is not only physically green, but also smart in combining modern technology and sustainability principles,” said Bambang optimistically.

With this achievement, ITS has not only strengthened its reputation as one of the best technological universities in Indonesia, but also as a pioneer of an inspiring sustainable campus. In the future, ITS plans to expand the scope of sustainability programs and continue to encourage the implementation of innovative technology to realize its vision as a smart eco-campus that has a real impact on the environment and global society.
