ITS Campus, ITS News — Increasing the contribution of research in the field of technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has again inaugurated professors for the second time in 2025. After previously inaugurating five new professors, this time seven new professors were inaugurated in the ITS Professors Council Open Session at the ITS Research Center Auditorium, Thursday (6/2).

ITS Rector Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD proudly opened the professors’ inaugural session and appreciated the role of the professors in boosting the institution’s research improvement. “With the addition of these seven new professors, we hope that the contributions of the professors can strengthen industrial collaboration, increase research funding, and raise the image of ITS in the international arena,” said the 13th ITS Rector.

The inauguration began with the reading of a scientific oration by ITS’s 209th professor Prof Dr Ir Eko Budi Santoso Lic Rer Reg entitled The Role of Planning Science and Regional Economic Development in Improving Regional Competitiveness. “The key element in realizing regional development is infrastructure development, especially in connectivity infrastructure, electricity, information and communication technology, and basic facilities,” said the professor from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) ITS.

Continuing the reading of the oration, Prof. Eko Setijadi ST MT PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering ITS delivered his scientific oration with the title Mastery of Antenna Technology is One of the Keys to National Independence and National Sovereignty. “By mastering antenna technology, a country can innovate faster and independently in developing wireless technology-based products and services,” explained the 210th ITS professor.

Furthermore, Prof. Gunawan Nugroho ST MT PhD who is the 211th ITS professor presented his scientific oration entitled Application of Convection Heat Transfer: Challenges for Industrial Independence in the Future. “Heat transfer has an important role in many industrial processes, unused heat energy can be reused for energy savings,” said the professor of the Department of Physics Engineering Department ITS.

Meanwhile, the scientific oration was continued by Prof. Dr. Hendro Juwono MSi from the Department of Chemistry ITS who discussed Plastic Degradation with Nyamplung Biomass Oil Co-Reactants, CPO, WCO into Biofuel as a Solution to Environmental and Energy Problems. “The use of a combination of biomass and plastic waste can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support the development of a circular economy,” explained the 212th ITS professor.

Next, Prof Ir Hera Widyastuti MT PhD who was confirmed as the 213th ITS professor delivered a scientific oration entitled Model of Queuing in the Railway Level Crossings. “This research presents a novelty by developing a data-based predictive model to measure and analyze the impact of train frequency on road traffic,” said the ITS professor from the Department of Civil Engineering.

Followed by Prof. Mas Irfan Purbawanto Hidayat ST MSc PhD who presented his scientific oration entitled The Development and Role of Material Computing Discipline: from Geometry to AI, and from Energy to Green Economy. Currently, according to the 214th ITS professor, the contribution of material computing development can be seen from the increased accuracy and efficiency of problem handling. “Also the integration of model solutions with machine learning and workflow integration in discovery and innovation in the field of materials,” said the professor from the Department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering.

Closing the scientific oration, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rivai ST MT explained about the Role of Electronic Nose Technology as a Future Innovation in Quality Evaluation. “With an approach based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, e-nose technology has been developed to include food aroma identification, disease analysis through urine and respiratory air samples, and gas leak search robots,” said the 215th ITS professor from the Department of Electrical Engineering.

With the end of the professor inauguration session, the Chair of the ITS Professors Council Prof. Dr. Imam Robandi MT also emphasized his hopes for the seven new ITS professors. “Hopefully the inauguration of these seven new professors will be a motivation to continue to contribute to the Indonesian nation,” concluded the professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering ITS.

The inauguration of seven new professors shows ITS’ full support for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 which focuses on quality education.
