ITS Campus, ITS News — The Process Safety Engineering (PSE) Study Program of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) successfully received a special award from the East Java Province Occupational Safety and Health Council (DK3P Jatim), last Sunday (2/16). This special award was given for its contribution to the development of new streams for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) science in Indonesia.

Head of the ITS PSE Study Program, Dr. Adithya Sudiarno ST MT IPM ASEAN Eng, revealed that this special award is a form of appreciation from DK3P Jatim for ITS’ efforts in developing new fields in OSH science. So far, the field of OSH science is identical to the health and vocational clusters. ITS with its PSE Study Program has succeeded in expanding the field of OSH science to the hard engineering cluster.

The man who is usually called Adhit explained that the ITS PSE Study Program is different from the OSH study program which usually focuses on occupational safety only. In addition to studying this type of safety, PSE also focuses on overcoming accidents that are major accident hazards. This type of accident comes from a process that is ignored.

Furthermore, the lecturer who has competence in the field of Occupational Safety and Healthcare said that major accident hazards are very dangerous. This type of hazard has a fairly small frequency, but has a very large impact if it occurs. The losses caused by this type of hazard are very serious. “On paper, major accident hazards have a low to medium frequency with medium to high risk,” he said.

With this award, according to Adith, the ITS PSE Study Program will continue to improve the academic process. According to Adhit, this award is a means from an external party that can trigger the quality of the study program. “The ITS PSE Study Program will continue to improve the aspects that need to be conveyed to students,” he said.

The lecturer who won an award from the World of Safety and Health (WSH) Asia Award 2024 hopes that with this special award, the ITS PSE Study Program will be able to spark the interest of the general public to join so as to create the best graduates.
