English Check Founder Kohan Gunawan, while explaining the material at one of the English Check class meetings
ITS Campus, ITS News —The students of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continue to present innovations in the field of education. This time, the innovation is called English Check, a free offline English learning platform. Community-based English Check aims to improve students’ English skills with systematic and effective learning methods.
English Check Co-Founder Khairunnisa Rahmahdani Danang explained that English, as an international language, needs to be mastered because it plays a crucial role in the era of globalization. According to her, learning English should be accessible to everyone without being constrained by expensive course fees. “Therefore, we are here to help students learn English for free,” said the girl who is familiarly called Ica.
This ITS Informatics Department student explained that students from various campuses in Surabaya attended the English Check program. Learning will occur every weekend with material tailored to each class and its members. “We provide modules for 16 meetings,” said the bespectacled student.

Ica explained that English Check offers two types of classes: Free English Class and English Check for Model United Nations (MUN). The free English Class focuses on the basics of English, such as parts of speech, phrases, sentence structure, tenses, and clauses. It also trains participants to work on English competency test questions with tips and tricks designed by English Check tutors.
Meanwhile, she continued that English Check for MUN will start in November after all regular class meetings are completed. This program is designed to help participants with critical thinking and public speaking, especially in the context of the MUN trial simulation. “Thus, participants can also use English in academic and professional discussions,” said Ica.
The ITS MUN Club member said the program, which has been running since February 2025, was held in two locations: Taman Baca Masyarakat (TBM) Universitas Airlangga and Kelurahan Keputih. In addition to offline learning, she revealed that English Check is developing a website-based learning system to expand the program’s reach.

This winner of The Most Outstanding Delegates at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Council 2024 hopes that English Check can be more widespread in Surabaya and other cities. In addition, he also hopes that student awareness of the importance of English language skills will increase. “English Check is a form of real contribution from ITS students in the world of education and self-development,” she concluded optimistically.
This English Check innovation also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) point 4: quality education. Access to learning English at no cost and equipped with a structured curriculum encourages inclusive, quality, and equitable education. (ITS Public Relations)
