ITS Campus, ITS News —Supporting the continuation of the Abadi project, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) together with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) and Inpex Masela Ltd conducted a presentation of a logistics study for the oil and gas refinery construction project in the South Maluku area. In this project, ITS contributed through an academic study of the sustainability of the Abadi project logistics.

In his presentation, also attended by the Head of the Abadi Project Acceleration Unit Working Group SKK Migas Benny Sianturi and Senior Manager Supply Chain Management Inpex Masel Ltd Rudi Imran. Benny expressed his appreciation for ITS’s contribution to the Abadi project. Through in-depth studies, ITS helped analyze and formulate effective logistics strategies for the project. “This study can be a reference material for determining the right decisions in the future,” he said.

Head of the ITS Logistics Study Team Sutopo Purwono Fitri ST MEng PhD explained that this study aims to examine more deeply the logistics system of the Abadi project. This is to ensure that every aspect of this project from transportation, distribution, to storage can run efficiently. “With careful logistics planning, the potential for technical constraints and risks can be minimized,” explained Sutopo.

The lecturer from the Department of Marine Engineering at ITS added that the initial logistics study began with an in-depth study of the report obtained from Inpex. Together with his team, Sutopo revealed that there were eight points that were the main focus of this study. “Namely, logistics philosophy, infrastructure and facilities, mechanical handling equipment , shipping routes, waste management, and fuel management,” he explained.

Furthermore, Sutopo and his team also evaluated potential locations for marshalling points (logistics collection points). In this stage, they analyzed 13 points that had the required criteria. “From the 13 points, we narrowed it down to eight marshalling points that have the potential for large goods transportation,” explained the member of the Fluid and Systems Machinery Laboratory, Department of Marine Engineering ITS .

From the evaluation results, the ITS Expert Team conducted a review of the layout design of the Logistic Supply Base (LSB) facility. This evaluation also includes possible solutions for mechanical equipment and cargo control systems. With this review, it is hoped that the selected layout will be able to support logistics operations more effectively and efficiently.

In addition to focusing on infrastructure and transportation aspects, the study also highlights the importance of fuel management. At this point, Sutopo analyzes the estimated fuel consumption for various project operational activities, especially the type and amount of transportation fuel used, so as to minimize fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The presentation conducted by ITS is an implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 9 and 12. Thus, the implementation of the results of this study is expected to facilitate the Abadi project, as well as strengthen cooperation between ITS, SKK Migas, and Inpex Masela Ltd in the future. (ITS PUBLIC RELATIONS)
