ITS Wins 2024 Project Implementation Award for Commitment to Gender Implementation

ITS Campus, ITS News —Not only technology-oriented, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) also show its commitment to support gender equality. Thanks to the commitment that has been given, ITS won the 2024 Project Implementation Award for Outstanding Gender Implementation achievements on March 13th, 2025.

Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni of ITS Ir Prof Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD explained that the 2024 Project Implementation Award was given by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a form of recognition for ITS’ dedication in showing concern and commitment to gender aspects. “The award was received based on ITS programs that support gender equality,” he explained.

The lecturer who is familiarly called Hatta said that ITS consistently ensures the involvement of women in capacity development programs in the Higher Education for Technology and Innovation (HETI) project, with a participation target of 32 percent. The HETI project itself is designed to increase capacity and quality for the development of technology and innovation, both in facilities and for the ITS academic community.

Hatta continued that ITS has a special program themed Women in Technopreneurship, which builds opportunities for women to contribute to the development of innovation and technology. “In addition, women can also play a role as strategic decision makers in dealing with industry,” he added.

The Professor of the ITS Department of Engineering Physics said that this award reflects ITS’s noble vision, Advancing Humanity. Namely emphasizing the importance of inclusive humanitarian development, including gender equality in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 5. “Through this inclusive policy, ITS is committed in reducing gender gaps,” said Hatta.

Furthermore, according to Hatta, ITS formed a Gender Focal Point (GFP) to ensure that the implementation of the HETI project is in line with gender principles. GFP initiated a Gender Action Plan that includes socialization and implementation of training related to Gender Violence, Exploitation, Abuse, Sexual Harassment (VEA SEAH). “In the future, GFP targets the development of a technology-based platform to address issues of inclusivity and gender implementation,” he added.

The alumnus of Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland stated that this award further confirms ITS as an institution committed to gender equality issues. Not only that, this recognition from ADB motivates ITS to create a more inclusive educational environment. “Next, ITS is determined to strengthen the implementation of gender-based policies in education, research, and innovation,” concluded Hatta.
