ITS Campus, ITS News — Continuing to show local wisdom to the world community, this time a lecturer from the Department of Visual Communication Design (DKV) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Naufan Noordyanto SSn MSn introduced Madurese culture through his poster work to the international scene, including in South Korea and China. The poster titled Cukur Rambut Madura also successfully won several prestigious international awards.
The man from Pamekasan has produced more than 200 works that have been exhibited in 46 countries. The various works that are world-famous are raised from a socio-cultural perspective in Indonesia and abroad. “The goal is to raise the image and culture of Indonesia which is unique and different from other countries,” said Naufan.

The lecturer who has been active in the field of graphic design for 15 years said that the idea of making this poster came from the habit of cutting hair which is quite identical in several regions in Indonesia, one of which is in Madura. From this, Naufan found something new that it is one of the skills that is passed down from generation to generation. “The image that is formed in this society is cheap and everywhere,” he said.

From his findings, Naufan created a poster about haircuts in Madura which was done in two days by combining design composition and typography that are in harmony with the existing image. This poster also uses several old photos related to haircuts. “In simple terms, this poster is composed experimentally,” explained the alumnus of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta.
The poster created in 2024 has also appeared and won several international awards. Some of them are The Best Most Jamet at the typefest.id 2024 International Typography Biennial – Exhibition feat DKV ACT in Surakarta, the Silver Award at the Hehu International Poster Exhibition in Shenzhen, China, and being one of the participants in the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Science (KICS) Summer Conference and International Exhibition 2024 in Jeju, South Korea.
