ITS Campus, ITS News — The Professors Council of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held its 6th Professor Summit to organize human resources to face the nation’s progress. Held at the ITS Research Center Auditorium on Thursday (31/10), the event aimed to synergize professors to answer global challenges in improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia.
Opening the event, ITS Rector Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD highlighted the importance of utilizing the demographic bonus that Indonesia is facing. Indonesia’s large population is valuable if appropriately managed in the productive age. “However, this demographic bonus will become a burden if the quality of human resources is inadequate,” he explained.
Therefore, this ITS Mechanical Engineering Department Professor also expressed that professors have a crucial role in continuing to be proactive in preparing the younger generation to face future challenges. “With the collaboration of professors, it can be a hope to give birth to innovations that can answer the challenges of Indonesian human resources,” said Bambang.
In line with the ITS Rector, the Chairman of the Professor Summits 2024 Committee, Prof Dr Ir Djatmiko Ichsani MEng, emphasized the importance of this event as a forum to synergize professors in building superior human resources. “We hope that the results of this forum can provide real contributions and innovative solutions for the development of Indonesian human resources,” said Djatmiko.
In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of utilizing the demographic bonus that reaches 64.39 percent owned by Indonesia. A demographic bonus is a condition in which the number of the productive-age population is greater than the non-productive-age population. However, the demographic bonus will only be an advantage if the quality of human resources is adequate.
In response to this topic, the event, which was attended by 95 professors from 21 educational institutions in Indonesia and Japan, held six seminars. Two of them were plenary seminars, filled by keynote speakers Professor of Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan, Prof. Hiroyuki Ishizaki, and Chairman of the Indonesian Professors Association, Prof. Ari Purbayanto, to discuss building international research collaboration and the prospectivity of university accreditation.
The quality of human resources is considered to be a determining factor in the success of a nation. The Professor Summit 2024 will significantly improve Indonesia’s human resources quality. Thus, Indonesia can have human resources that can compete globally and bring this nation to a brighter future. (ITS Public Relations)
