ITS Campus, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in collaboration with the Regional Civil Service Agency (in Indonesian: Badan Kepegawaian Daerah, furtherly abbreviated and referred as BKD) of East Java Province will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the implementation of the Civil Servant Candidate Test (in Indonesian: Calon Pegawai Negeri Sipil, furtherly abbreviated and referred as CPNS) Additional Field Competency Selection (in Indonesian: Seleksi Kompetensi Bidang, furtherly abbreviated and referred as SKB), Sunday (1/12), at the East Java Province BKD CBT Laboratory. AI is applied for the first time for the CPNS Test to help the answer assessment process.
The head of the ITS Technical Team in implementing the AI-based Additional SKB CPNS Test, Dr Dwi Sunaryono SKom MKom, explained that applying AI in this activity is a form of implementing national leadership instructions in mobilizing AI as a problem solver in people’s lives. “ITS seeks to pioneer the use of AI to help life in society,” he said.
AI is used to assist the assessment process of the answers of CPNS Test participants, so it is expected to produce a more accurate and humane assessment where test assessments are generally only based on keywords. “The number of answers from participants with various ways of thinking and culture can be assessed more flexibly,” he explained.
Regarding how it works, the ITS Informatics Department lecturer explained that the AI here works by assessing participants’ answers directly without any intervention or subjective views from outside parties. In addition, this technology uses a graded assessment, where the process of the participant is also assessed in addition to the truth. “This can be a new discourse in which each participant’s answer is valued here,” said Dwi.
In preparing for AI technology, this ITS Doctoral Computer Science graduate explained that his party had tested hundreds to thousands of times to produce AI that could become a reliable assessor. Approximately ten lecturers were involved in developing and training the AI model for approximately four months.
The utilization of AI in the answer assessment process itself has long been implemented in ITS, especially in the Informatics Department, to assess student exam answers. With the development of AI utilization on a wider scale, Dwi hopes that AI can be more widely utilized in people’s lives as a tool that facilitates and accelerates various forms of activity.
In the future, the man from Surabaya also hopes that the AI model training process can be done automatically to develop the AI capability. “Hopefully, the use of AI can later be more developed and spread to various fields nationally,” he said. (ITS Public Relations)
