Information Technology is now a fast-developing field. Rapid developments in this field have had an impact on job creation in many sectors, such as government, universities, service companies, software houses, and banking. This means that Information Technology has a great potential to help improve the Indonesian economy which is currently still affected by the monetary crisis some time ago. Seeing the opportunity to meet the needs of qualified human resources in the field of Information Technology, the Postgraduate ITS Master of Informatics Study Program offers a Strata-2 (master) educational program that can meet the market needs for human resources in the field of Informatics that are qualified in theoretical and practical aspects, and can adapt to the rapid development in this field.
The Department of Informatics is one of the programs of the Faculty of Information Technology (FTIF) ITS. Opened Postgraduate study program Informatics starting in the 1996/1997 academic year. From the 1993/1994 to the 2004/2005, 94 graduates were graduated from 663 students.
Supported by 25 lecturers with qualifications: 4 professors, and 21 masters. Supporting facilities available are as follows: Full AC and LCD Lecture Room, 6 Laboratories, Discussion Room, Reading Room with more than 2000 library materials, international and national scientific journals, including internet connections and other facilities.
The Study Program in Informatics Engineering aims to: • Providing opportunities for undergraduate graduates from scientific disciplines related to Information Technology to continue to a higher level of education in the field of Information Engineering. • Providing advanced knowledge in the field of Informatics through education and research. • Increase the number of qualified experts in the field of Informatics to support market needs.

Informatics Engineering Study Program is carried out within 4 semesters (2 years), with a total credit load of 40 credits, consisting of 20 credits of compulsory course material (including a thesis) and 20 credits of elective course material in accordance with the curriculum. The academic calendar for the first semester starts in early September, while the second semester starts in early February and ends in June.
