On Wednesday (17/1/2024) the ITS Library, in collaboration with the Global Language Center Unit (UPBG) and in connection with efforts to improve the English language skills of Library staff, held an English Free Conversation activity in the Bibliotek Room, Fl. 2 – ITS Library Building.
The aim of holding this activity is to have a positive impact on the English language skills of the Library staff. This Free Conversation is designed to facilitate participants to become more comfortable and skilled in communicating in English.
There are several games given by the mentor from UPBG (Mbak Diah), including a game of guessing words related to libraries so that it is hoped that the participants will be able to develop vocabulary about the library they own.
First of all, the participants consisting of librarians and library administrators were divided into 4 groups. During the word guessing game, 1 person as the word guesser (carrying writing about one word above his head) and the rest as those who give as many clues as possible about the word in question within 3 minutes must guess as many times as possible, but if it is difficult to say skip, then you will replaced by the next word. This game is really very exciting.
In the second game, each group was asked to write down any obstacles or incidents in the library that we often encounter but are not exposed to.
Both games were very exciting and interesting, so that every participant was intrigued to think and express it without the slightest hesitation, whether wrong or right because after the game it would be discussed what the participant’s mistakes were in speaking English, in essence the key was only one thing. we say it is understood by foreign users, for that we have to increase our vocabulary in English related to libraries.
