The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) library successfully held a book review event entitled “Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Python Concepts and Programming” on Thursday, June 27 2024 in the CCWS Room. This event was attended by students, academics, and information technology activists.

Two expert speakers were presented to thoroughly examine this 427 page book. First, Prof. Dr. Hj. Evi Fatimatur Rusydiyah, M.Ag, Head of the Library at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, who is also a literacy activist at the Ministry of Religion. He dissected this book from the perspective of the PIRLS Framework measuring tool.

Interestingly, from the five aspects of PIRLS, Prof. Evi highlighted the “Evaluation” aspect as a point that needs improvement. He underlined the importance of improving typography, choosing font size, and adding an author profile to perfect this book. Moreover, from the literal, authentic, inferential cause-effect, and expert appreciative aspects, this book meets PIRLS standards.

The second resource person, Dr. Shoffi Izza Sabilla, S. Kom., a young and energetic lecturer from Medical Technology and one of the authors of this book, gave a presentation that was no less interesting. With relatable illustrations and an interactive approach, he successfully explained machine learning concepts clearly and easily understood, even by audiences who do not have an IT background.

The question and answer session was warm, showing the participants’ enthusiasm and understanding of the material presented. Indri Sudanawati Rozas, the event moderator, neatly guided the discussion until it produced an iconic conclusion: “Machine Learning is not just the domain of IT people, machine learning is needed in all aspects of human life to facilitate and improve the quality of life for all of us. Machine Learning for Human Being! “.

It is hoped that the book “Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Python Concepts and Programming” can become a useful source of knowledge for students, academics, and the wider community.

Hopefully, this book will be a light of knowledge that illuminates the world (onemore).
