Surabaya, February 21, 2025 – The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Library held an in-house training with the theme “Development Strategies for Higher Education Libraries Based on Service Creativity and Innovation”. The event was attended by 30 ITS Library staff and aimed to enhance library service capacity through digital transformation and learning from other university libraries’ best practices.

The Head of ITS Library, Mr. Agus Santoso, S.Sos, M.Med. Kom, in his speech emphasized the importance of library service innovation to support the needs of ITS academic community. “As the heart of the academic ecosystem, ITS Library must continue to innovate to address contemporary challenges and provide the best services for library users,” he stated.

The event featured Prof. Imas Maesaroh, M.Lib, Ph.D, a professor from UINSA Surabaya. She shared her experiences in developing creativity and innovation-based library services, including the digital transformation implemented at Curtin University’s library in Australia, which has integrated its services with the campus Learning Management System (LMS).

“Library integration with LMS enables users to access digital reference sources directly from course syllabi. This greatly facilitates the academic community in finding information needed for learning and research activities,” Prof. Imas explained.

Additionally, participants learned about Curtin Library’s learning spaces that implement the silent study room concept. This space is specially designed for independent learning activities requiring high concentration. A similar concept will be implemented on the 4th floor of the ITS Library, specifically in the reserve room, to meet users’ needs.

During the discussion session, ITS Library staff also discussed strategies for developing digital collections and improving access to e-resources. This aligns with the increasing trend of digital information needs among the academic community.

Furthermore, participants were introduced to advanced features at Curtin Library, such as multimedia rooms, 3D printing, and digital collaboration facilities, which can inspire future service development at ITS Library.
