ITS Library Towards Learning and Activity Centre (LAC)

Oleh : itsperpustakaan | | Source : -

The transformation of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Library into a Learning and Activity Centre (LAC) represents a new paradigm in library services within higher education. This LAC model goes beyond the traditional function as a mere provider of information resources and focuses on developing an inclusive learning and activity ecosystem for the entire academic community: students, lecturers, and educational staff.

Learning and Activity Centre (LAC)

This initiative reflects the Library’s commitment to optimizing the utilization of physical space and library resources to create a conducive environment for positive and productive academic and non-academic activities. This holistic approach recognizes that effective learning occurs not only in classrooms but also through social interaction and comprehensive personal development.

The implementation of LAC at ITS Library involves space optimization strategies and program development that are responsive to community needs. The available facilities are designed to accommodate various activities, ranging from collaborative study and group project work to workshops, seminars, and informal discussions. Creating a supportive and comfortable atmosphere is key to the success of this strategy, encouraging active participation and continuous interaction within the library environment. As an integral part of the LAC model, ITS Library will proactively organize regular, free non-academic capacity-building programs. These programs are designed to complement the academic curriculum, providing students, lecturers, and educational staff with skills and knowledge relevant to dynamic and competitive modern demands. The non-academic capacity-building programs offered include:

  1. Public speaking focused on improving effective communication and presentation skills,
  2. Mental health awareness aimed at enhancing understanding and management of mental health,
  3. Digital literacy focusing on optimal and ethical use of information and communication technology.

Each program is designed with a structured learning framework, including specific learning objectives, interactive teaching methods, and measurable outcome evaluations. Active learning methods, such as group discussions, case studies, and simulations, are integrated to enhance understanding and retention of materials. Program evaluation will be conducted periodically through participant satisfaction surveys and quantitative data analysis to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of programs in supporting ITS Library’s vision: Knowledge and Happiness Center

This data is then used to make continuous program revisions and improvements, ensuring programs remain relevant and responsive to user needs. This evaluation also includes measuring program impact on participants’ communication skills, mental health, and digital literacy. Evaluation results will be published regularly for transparency and accountability purposes. (onemoreITS)
