[Surabaya, June 18, 2023] — The Community Engagement Center for Halal of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and the Surabaya City Government collaborated to hold a halal awareness socialization with the theme “Supply chain and halal products” in a series of Kampung Madani workshops on June 9-17, 2023. Eri Cahyadi, the Mayor of Surabaya, requested that all village heads and mosque administrators be trained to have the same perspective and vision in implementing and developing Kampung Madani.

Agus Imam Sonhaji, Head of the Surabaya Population and Civil Registry Office, explained that Kampung Madani is a village that in running the wheels of life and society prioritizes the principles of mutual cooperation, self-reliance and economic independence that optimizes the role of zakat, infaq, alms, and waqf management from its residents to support multicultural development based on Pancasila.

Regarding this, Prof. Iwan Vanany, Head of the ITS Industrial Engineering Postgraduate Study Program, explained that the development of halal certification in Indonesia itself has shown an extraordinary role in ensuring the halal status of a product. The implementation of the mandatory halal products, continued Gunawan, has been carried out in stages starting from food and beverage products on October 17, 2019. Meanwhile, for non-food products it began on October 17, 2021 in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Religion (PMA) Number 26 of 2019.

“This collaborative approach aims to create a conducive environment for the successful implementation of the Halal Product Assurance Program. By providing clear guidelines, good assistance, and ensuring the availability of halal-certified products, said Prof. Setiyo Gunawan, Head of the Community Engagement Center for Halal of ITS.

The village heads began to register their residents who had businesses, both micro, small, medium and large, then analyzed and recommended them to participate in the free halal certification program (SEHATI 2023). Meanwhile, the takmirs are expected to have a program for halal lifestyle awareness,” he concluded.
