ITS supports Surabaya’s economic acceleration through the Surabaya Halal Festival

[Surabaya, July 27, 2024] – Surabaya Halal Festival (SHF) 2024 was officially held with the theme “Sustainable Halal Towards a Future”, and was officially opened by the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi. This event consists of three main series, namely pre-event, main event (August 21-23), and post-event.

The Chairperson of the SHF 2024 Committee, Riva Siregar, who is also the General Chairperson of the ITS Manyar Alumni Association (IKA), explained that the pre-event mentoring activities in East Surabaya began on July 27-28, 2024 at the ITS Research Center Building, which was attended by more than 400 participants.

The opening of the pre-event mentoring at ITS was attended by Assistant II for Economics and Development, Agus Imam Sonhaji; Vice Chancellor III for Human Resources, Organization, and Information System Technology of ITS, Imam Baihaqi; Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni of ITS, Agus Muhamad Hatta, Director of the Slaughterhouse, Fajar Arifianto Isnuroho; and Head of the Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Service (Dinkopumdag) of Surabaya City, Dewi Soeriyawati.

Head of the ITS Community Engagement Center for Halal, Setiyo Gunawan, explained that the participants received material on the Halal Product Assurance System and the importance of Halal Certification for business actors. In addition, they also learned how to obtain NIB and PIRT business permits from DPM-PTSP and the Surabaya Health Service, added Gunawan, who is also the Director of the Halal Product Industry of the East Java Sharia Economic and Financial Regional Committee.

With this activity, business actors are expected to gain sufficient knowledge to improve their quality and be ready to enter the market. They are also assisted in making business permits, distribution permits, and halal certification. This is in line with the objectives of IKA ITS to implement work programs that are of real benefit to the community.
