Yogyakarta, ITS News – Fish farming is a potentially significant aspect to be developed to support educational tourism in Sumbersari Village, Sleman Regency. In support of this initiative, the Community Service team (Abmas) from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has designed solar-powered pumps and aerators to optimize fish farming.

According to the supervising lecturer, Melania Suweni Muntini, this community service project is aimed at fish farming groups to contribute to the realization of educational tourism in Sumbersari Village, Sleman Regency. Along with 12 students, Melania will oversee and conduct in-depth observations to develop this potential. “In the future, students will serve for 31 days,” she explained.

Since July 21st, the issue of insufficient water volume to fill the fish ponds has been the first challenge to address. This is because the fish farming groups only use leftover water from rice field irrigation. Together with her team, Melania uses pumps to help channel water directly from the river to the fish farming ponds.

Not stopping there, the team has also designed aerators for the fish farming ponds to improve water quality. The application of aerators can enrich the oxygen content in the water. “The implementation of aerators and pumps is expected to optimize the fish farming process and contribute to the income of fish farmers,” she said.

In addition to the aerators and pumps, this Physics Department lecturer also plans to install solar panels as a Solar Power Generator (PLTS) to supply energy. “In this regard, the community will be educated about its operation and maintenance so that management can be carried out independently,” she added.

As a village in the southern part of Sleman Regency with high tourism potential, Melania and her team are also driven to help create a foundation for tourism development that can benefit the community. This plan involves the synergy of young people and farmers in the village to optimize the potential of educational tourism.

Warmly welcomed by the Head of Sumbersari Village, this ongoing activity is expected to initiate educational tourism in Sumbersari Village effectively. The presence of educational tourism will bring many benefits to the local community. “The students will also provide training in marketing Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to increase the income of the community,” she concluded.
