Jakarta, ITS News — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has reaffirmed its commitment by winning the Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2024 as the 3rd Best Higher Education Institution at the SDGs Annual Conference 2024. The award, presented at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on October 7, marks a significant achievement for ITS in underscoring its contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across various sectors in Indonesia.
The prestigious award was handed over by the Vice President of Indonesia, KH Ma’ruf Amin, accompanied by the Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, to the Rector of ITS, Ir Bambang Pramujati MSc Eng PhD. This marks the second consecutive year that ITS has received this recognition, excelling in quality education, employment, and green industry sectors toward inclusive and equitable development for all.
The Rector, affectionately known as BP, expressed pride in the achievement, particularly through the innovations and programs spearheaded by the ITS SDGs Study Center. He emphasized that ITS is committed to being a pioneer in education that aligns with contemporary development and sustainability. “One of our main efforts is integrating smarter digital-based education,” he explained.
ITS is also focused on enhancing the quality of graduates who are prepared to compete in the industrial world, especially in this digital transformation era. BP noted that many ITS alumni are now thriving in rapidly growing startups and earning decent incomes. “This is one of the indicators of ITS’s success in producing graduates who can adapt to modern industry needs,” the Mechanical Engineering lecturer clarified.
In addition to strengthening the education sector, ITS has revamped its facilities with a smart class concept. Nearly all classrooms at ITS are now equipped with modern technology to support more interactive learning processes. BP stated that this development is supported by significant funding to ensure each classroom has adequate facilities to enhance education quality.
Dr. Dra Melania Suweni Muntini MT, Head of the ITS SDGs Study Center, highlighted that ITS not only focuses on campus initiatives but also pays great attention to community service activities and collaborations with various stakeholders. “We offer various training programs, hoping that the community can better face future challenges through these service activities,” added the Physics lecturer.
Receiving the Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2024 from Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta, Rector Ir Bambang Pramujati MSc Eng PhD emphasized that through community service over recent years, ITS is preparing for Indonesia’s Golden Age in 2045. This commitment is evident not just in campus programs but also through ITS’s contributions to the green industry based on renewable technology. Melani stressed that ITS is always ready to face new challenges, even when sudden demands arise.
BP further stated that the award underscores the importance of research and technology in achieving sustainable development goals. With increasing concerns about climate change, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability, universities like ITS are urged to innovate continuously and develop sustainable solutions. ITS has demonstrated that through technology and education, the achievement of SDGs can be accelerated more efficiently.
With this award, BP added, ITS will continue to strengthen its reputation and position as a leader in sustainable technological innovation. With support from the entire academic community and solid collaboration with the government and society, ITS is committed to contributing on both national and international stages. “We will move together through research, education, and community service focused on sustainability,” BP motivated.
