At the 57th ITS Anniversary celebration on Friday, November 10, 2017, ITS got a special gift from the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia (MoT) with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) at Rectorate Building ITS 1st floor. The MoU is linked to support for the development of “Tol Laut” (sea toll) program.
Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, stated that the current sea toll has been able to suppress the disparity rate of 20%. However, this program still needs improvement, especially in terms of the number of ship required. Therefore, MoT requires colleagues in education and science. “ITS is able to provide input through its research to improve sea toll program including ships required for sea toll route”. The contribution of research and innovation from ITS is expected to be a solution to solve current problems, such as cargo carried for sea toll that has not maximal yet, vessels used are foreign made products and also problems on ship tracking.
Rector of ITS, Prof. Ir. Joni Hermana. M.Sc.ES., Ph.D. said that his university has been very advanced in the maritime sector so it is ready to help the government in developing the sea toll. “We have been able and advanced to create maritime equipment and will support the Ministry of Transportation to succeed the sea toll,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Ketut Buda Artana, M.Sc., as Vice Rector of ITS in Innovation, Cooperation, Alumni and International Relations, stated that there are several opportunities of this cooperation, which is to provide opportunities for human resources in MoT for pursuing their study on Master and Doctoral Programs in ITS, organizing training and workshops, joint research, joint funding and technopark development cooperation.
Ketut also described several innovations of ITS (from the Department of Marine Transportation) that have been worked on and can be used in the improvement of sea toll program, such as the standard calculation of port concessions, freight calculator of vessel on sea toll routes, development of floating infrastructure. In addition, there are also telematics products of marine transportation, namely: Application of Intelligent Transportation System in the field of sea transportation.
