Information Systems is a field in Computer science which learns about how technology can be successful implemented in a Social System with optimizing the harmony of aspects of Technology, Human & Organization.
Computing field is a family of disciplines that studies various aspects related to how to require, take advantage of, or design and development of computer hardware and software for various needs, such as: information processing and management; problem solution analysis; scientific study; smart systems development; development of media communication and entertainment; information gathering for specific purposes. There are 7 (seven) disciplines in the Computing science clump, namely (Figure 1):
Information Systems is a discipline that focuses on how to integrate Information Technology solutions with business processes in order to be able to meet the needs and goals of business and organizations more effectively and efficiently. The Information Systems discipline emphasizes Information Technology on the information aspect and examines technology as a means of collecting, processing, and distributing information.
Alumni of the Information Systems program or Information Systems professionals are generally concerned with what information can be provided by computer systems to support and help the organization achieving its goals and what processes the organization can do or improve in the use of Information Technology. Therefore, students and alumni of the Information Systems program must deeply understand both technical and organizational factors, and capable to help organizations determine how information and technology-based business processes can produce an organization’s competitive advantage. In addition, Information systems alumni and professionals play an active role in the analysis of an organization’s information system requirements, including in the process of formulating specifications, designing, and implementing an information system. Therefore, an Information Systems professional must have a deep knowledge and experience related to both business / organizational concepts and practices so that they are able to act as an effective bridge between technical units or staff and management in an organization, and finally enabling the technical and management teams to work together to ensure the availability of information and the organization’s operational support systems.
Master program of Information Systems in Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is a higher education level for the graduates of Information Systems, Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Management, Computer Engineering, and other study programs related to Information Technology in order to increase knowledge, skills, and research capabilities within the scope of the Information Systems discipline with the degree obtained at the graduation is M.Kom.
