ITS Technology Innovation Increases Fishermen’s Productivity in Lobuk Village

Sumenep – Fishermen in Lobuk Village, Bluto District, Sumenep Regency, now have new hope thanks to the technological innovation from the Kosa Bangsa Team of the Insitute Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The team, led by Prof. Nur Cahyadi, held a community service program aimed at improving the welfare of Angghas fishermen through the application of multicolor LED lamp technology and Low-Cost GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System).
Lobuk Village, which is about 15 kilometers from Sumenep City, has been one of the centers of traditional fisheries in East Java. However, technological limitations make it difficult for fishermen to increase productivity. The innovation of multicolor LED lamps, which are applied to fishermen’s nets, is expected to be a solution to attract more fish, especially at night.
As an initial step, local fishermen have been trained in using LED lamps on nets. The experiment was conducted at Matahari Beach by installing three nets 150 meters from the coastline. In addition, Prof. Subchan from the ITS Mathematics Department, together with a team from the Marine Systems Department, also installed solar panels to ensure that fishermen can use optimal lighting when fishing at night.
“We hope this technology can increase fishermen’s catches and support their welfare,” said Prof. Nur Cahyadi.

This program also involves the ITS Halal Team, which provides halal certification training for BUMDes Pelangi Nusantara Lobuk. This BUMDes has so far focused on processing the production of angghas fishermen and marketing their products. This training aims to make their processed fish products more competitive in a wider market.
The Head of BUMDes Pelangi Nusantara welcomed this training positively. “With halal certification, we are sure that processed fish products from Lobuk Village can penetrate a larger market,” he said.
ITS and Wiraraja University Collaboration
ITS also collaborated with Wiraraja University on this activity. This collaboration strengthens efforts to develop the Lobuk Village community by involving various cross-disciplinary expertise.
“This activity is real evidence of university collaboration in supporting coastal community empowerment,” said one of the representatives of Wiraraja University.
With various innovations and training provided, Lobuk Village is expected to become a model for technology-based coastal community empowerment. This step also reflects ITS’s commitment to supporting community economic development through applicable research and innovation.
