ITS Campus, ITS News – After introducing its first production to the public, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has officially released an electric motorcycle entitled Electric Vehicle ITS (EVITS). As an initial stage, ITS launched the EVITS TS-1 in a soft launch at Graha Sepuluh Nopember ITS on Monday (22/1).
The Rector of ITS, Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng, said that EVITS TS-1, which is predicted to be ready to compete in the national automotive market, is an electric motorcycle product that is ergonomically designed with good acceleration capabilities. Rector Ashari said that this product was the result of a collaboration between ITS through PT ITS Tekno Sains and PT Panggung Electric Citrabuana.
In his explanation, Ashari explained that EVITS TS-1 could cover a distance of up to 110 kilometers with a maximum speed of 55 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, Rector Ashari, a Professor from Electrical Engineering Department, explained that this motorcycle is equipped with two lithium batteries with a capacity of 60 volts and 26 Ah. “In terms of acceleration, to cover a distance of 55 kilometers, the acceleration takes seven to eight seconds,” he explained to the media crew on a press conference.

As a continuation of the innovation from GESITS, which is the first generation of ITS electric motorcycle, the Director of PT ITS Tekno Sains, Dr. Ir I Ketut Gunarta MT, said that EVITS has more developed from various lines. According to the man who is often called as Gunarta, the integration system that is the brain of the EVITS TS-1 is also more sophisticated. “The integration of the controller into the motorcycle and the battery management system is well-improved,” he claims.
Furthermore, Gunarta said the EVITS TS-1 has more dashing and sporty appearance. With a more attractive body design, according to him, this first type of EVITS has stronger material quality. Besides, this motorcycle also uses direct tires without a belt, which does not make an annoying noise when it is used. “It was proven during the trial that EVITS is very comfortable to ride,” he said after performing a test-drive.

Keeping on the commitment to use local materials in its production, Gunarta informed me that the total domestic components (TKDN) of this product are calculated to reach around 60 percents. By having this achievement, Gunarta said that ITS had made maximum efforts to support the development of domestic technology and innovation. Gunarta added that in this initial stage, 1,000 EVITS TS-1 units have been produced. “A total number of 250 units production have been sold out,” he stressed.
Gunarta revealed that EVITS will continue to be developed with various enhanced features. In the future, Gunarta revealed that this product will also be developed into three-wheeled motorcycle, four-wheeled motorcycle, and even minibus. To conclude, this lecturer from the Systems and Industrial Engineering Department ITS hopes that the presence of EVITS will be accepted by the wider community. “It can surely become a superior product whose impact can be felt by all community,” he said optimistically.
