ITS Chancellor Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD delivering a speech at the opening of SINOX-01 which is a collaboration between ITS and Unair at Grand City Mall Surabaya
ITS Campus, ITS News —As a form of support for the innovation of the nation’s children, Insititut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in collaboration with Airlangga University (Unair) held the Startup and Innovation Expo (SINOX) – 01. The exhibition, which was held at the Grand City Mall Surabaya, featured more than 120 startup and innovation stands for four days, starting Wednesday (20/11).
In his speech, ITS Rector Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD said that the SINOX-01 event was something special. Because, at the event it was seen how universities were able to produce various quality innovation products. “However, if we only produce innovation products, then the products will stop at exhibitions, journals, or other publications,” he said.
Furthermore, according to Bambang, industry and universities must work hand in hand for the sustainability of innovative products that have been created by researchers. The goal is that these innovations can be downstreamed, produced, and their benefits felt by the community. In fact, this collaboration can potentially become a source of income for universities to reduce their dependence on single tuition fees (UKT).
In addition, Bambang continued, the government also needs to be involved in supporting these profitable collaborations. The success of innovation collaboration between universities and industry will also help the country reduce its dependence on technology imports. “We have given the fishing rod to the academic community, now the role of industry and government is to open the fishing pond so that the fishing rod can be useful,” said the professor of the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In line with the ITS Rector, the Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs of Unair Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto DEA also believes that collaboration is very important for the Indonesian economy. “If we want to achieve national economic independence through innovative products from universities and their partners, of course the way is through collaboration,” he said.
The form of collaboration in question is not only between universities and industry, but also between universities. He hopes that SINOX-01 will not only be an exhibition event, but also a place for collaboration. “What we hope is that these innovative products can be well-diversified and truly support the achievement of national economic independence,” he hoped.
The first SINOX was held with the theme of Downstreaming Renewable Energy and Health Technology Towards National Economic Independence. This activity was hosted by ITS through the Directorate of Innovation and Science Technology Area (DIKST) and Unair through the Startup Business Development and Incubation Agency (BPBRIN) as part of the series of ITS’s 64th and Unair’s 70th Dies Natalis.
