Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) through U-International Program 2023 involving 64 students conducted community service program to help clean up trash in Mangrove Forest. Mangrove Ecotourism was chosen as the location of the activity because it is in line with the issues raised in the society. Explained that 1.2 tons of waste ends up in the mangrove forest every day. The garbage comes from waste in the Brantas River that is carried by the current to the sea. With this activity was made to help the environment clean and comfort to live in.
ITS and UTM students worked together to sort inorganic waste and collect it in garbage bags. Enthusiasm was significant in solving environmental problems in the mangrove forest. Thanks to the cooperation of students from the two ASEAN countries, the mangrove forest that was originally filled with garbage became clean in just one hour.
Additionally, collaboration between Indonesian and Malaysian students is a form of implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) point 17, namely partnerships for goals. The students need to develop themselves in terms of leadership and social collaboration to answer future challenges.
