Oil and gas industries in Indonesia has entered it`s sundown period, where the annual production is not proportional to the newfound reservoir. As the problem continues, there has been some methods to prolong the exploration of the existing reservoir, one of them is Enhanced Oil Recovery, the main topic of Hamzah Yudha Perwira`s final project.
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a method to optimize the functionality of a reservoir, by maximizing it`s output. The high-viscosity, poor permeability, and irregular faultlines oil can be lifted to surface and produced.
With the thesis entitled “Optimization of CO2 Foam Flooding Enhanced Oil Recovery Operation”, Hamzah is researching the EOR optimization in oil industry. “, Hamzah learns about methods of oil explorations. the first one is natural lift, the secondary step is water or gas injection, and the last one is EOR.
The purpose of EOR optimization is to increase the profit of oil industry, by comparing variables before and after EOR. Hamzah said, “I want to prove that Engineering Physcics Students also capable to learn about oil and mining industry, though it`s not included in the five specialization” when he choose this topic back a year ago.
The topic is still researchable, using different variables and software, there are a lot variations can be done. He thinks that Engineering Physics Students have to master some software that support research in the instrumentation engineering topics, at the very least, Ms. Excel and Matlab, Hysys, and Labview.
