Steam flood injection is a thermal recovery method used to enhance oil extraction by injecting steam into wells. This research focused on the Kasai heavy oil field, prioritizing steam flood injection in specific areas based on subsurface conditions and well data. The field’s north and south sections have varying numbers of wells and reservoir conditions. Machine learning techniques, particularly random forest regression, were applied to reservoir data to determine the importance of different variables for injection prioritization. The method involved data cleansing, model fitting, decision tree generation, and variable importance assessment, with results validated against high-level decision tree modeling and field data. Key variables identified included porosity, saturation, and permeability, leading to the recommendation that areas D, E, and F in the south section of the Kasai field should be prioritized for steam flood injection.
To support Sustainable Development Goal No. 13 (Climate Change), this paper introduces the SIMPLEX (Smart Integrated Housing Complex) model, a technological innovation aimed at reducing carbon emissions. SIMPLEX proposes the use of engineering wood products and integrates features like Transparent Wood, Transparent Nano Paper, Wind Turbines, Structural Applications, Water Treatment, and Energy Storage Devices within a housing complex. Became 2nd winner in the paper competition at APECX UGM 2022. Our paper discuss about steam flooding crucial technique in the tertiary recovery of heavy and viscous crude oil, known for its effectiveness in enhancing oil production. This process involves injecting steam, produced either on the surface or downhole, into the reservoir through special injection wells. The steam heats the oil, reducing its viscosity and improving its flow, making it easier to recover. However, successful steam flooding requires a thorough understanding of the reservoir’s heterogeneity and connectivity between wells to prevent steam channels and ensure balanced reservoir displacement. By utilizing well production, well location, and reservoir data, operators can optimize steam flooding operations and maximize oil recovery.
